Just wondering if I could put a GSP in a 20G tank, if i can how many and what ratio of male to female?

only one and even that would be a tight fit with no other tankmates.

you should also be aware that adult GSPs require heavily brackish water.

Yeh I knew they had to be in brackish water. How about a Figure 8 Puffer, how many could I fit in?

1, those puffers need room to grow otherwise your gonna have a messy aquarium, your best bet is either South american puffers or some dwarf puffs

Definate no to the GSP , but you could get a pair of Fig8's at a push, this is as long as your maintenance is very regimented and the tank is overfiltered.

I think you missed his point, the Figure8 Puffer is low Brackish 1.005-1.008 ish, where the GSP does better in full saltwater at adulthood. Both fish require very different water parameters. You could put an adult GSP in your marine tank if there is excess space.

No I know the saltinity requirements for both these fish.

About the South American Puffer, is it not too big for a 20 gallon tank. I'm thinking a pair of Figure 8 Puffer is the best option for me??

The SAP is a freshwater Puffer and will require dental work 1-2 times per year. The Figure8 Puffer is great, very interactive if looked after properly will live 10 years+. Get your tank well matured prior to getting the puffers as they are very sensitive to crappy water.

I think the Figure 8 Puffer is the best choice for me. I have 2 freshwater tanks and 1 marine tank, now it's time for something in between. :D . One more thing... should I get a pair or just one? If I do get just one is there a difference in appearance between the male and female or is it impossible to distinguish between the two?

Thanks :good:

Right so I have decided that I will be using the Eheim Aquaball 2212 internal filter for my 20G (75L). The 2212 is 650 liters/hour and is suitable for tanks up to 200 liters. I am thinking of 1 F8 Puffer and a couple of Bumblebee Gobies???

I wouldnt use that filter tbh, my 2 Fig8's dont like a fast flow of water, they seem to much prefer the calmer areas of the tank. You need to also think about overfiltering as Puffers are really messy

How about a Fluval 3 Plus it has a water flow adjuster. Also is the Eheim 2212 not overfiltering? My tank is 75L and the 2212 is suitable for up to 200L??

You could go one F8 with some bumble bee gobies and maybe some half beaks for the top layer

What is the scientific name for half beaks, never heard of them before??

Actually not being fussy or anything but I don't want any halfbeaks. I have decided to have an Eheim Aquaball 2210 (550L/h) and a Fluval 1 plus (200L/h) giving me a total of 750L/h, and a turnover of 10x. These are my options...

1) Just 1 Figure 8 Puffer
2) Just 2 Figure 8 Puffers
3) 1 Figure 8 Puffer & 1 Bumblebee Goby
4) 1 Figure 8 Puffer & 2 Bumblebee Gobies
5) 1 Figure 8 Puffer & 3 Bumblebee Gobies
6) 1 Figure 8 Puffer & 4 Bumblebee Gobies
7) 1 Figure 8 Puffer & 5 Bumblebee Gobies

What should I do....?

I did 1 fig 8 and 6 BBGs in a 20gal. They got a long great. I now have 10 BBG and 2 Fig 8s in a 30Gal. The BBGs do a great job of keeping the big debris from the puffers eating out of the tank. One of the Fig 8s was in a hospital tank for 2 months and it was a nightmare keeping the substrate clean. The BBGs are great.
