Hi all, again, i have a coldwater pod in my back garden, it has a filter, a ultra violet light, a waterfall ad fountin and yet it is stil green!!!!!!!!!???????????? why?? what can i do to make it not green as i perform frequent water changes and it still goes green. s it the food im using???

PS sos for the spelling error tis keyboard is faulty!

I'm guessing either your UV bulb is over 6 months old and so isn't working or your not cleaning out your filter regularly enough.....your UV's killing the alage it's clumping togther and collecting in your filter but as it's not cleaning once the media is saturated in algae it just flows back into the pond.

Failing all that the UV isn't strong enough for the pond volume or the pump is rated too low/high for the UV and the water is passing through too quickly/slowly through the UV.

Tell us more about your pond and the ecology? How many gallons? How many fish? How big of fish? Do you have live plants? What feed do you use? What is your filter flow rate (gph)? Is your UV filter inline with your mechanical filtration? Before or after the mechanical?

There are some liquids for ponds that will treat the green staff (not sure what they are called). If it somthing to do with algea you might want to get 'Algea Control' for ponds.

It's not good to dump chemicals into your pond or aquarium for every minor problem. Algae will not kill your fish. Chemicals will. It's better to get the ecology in line so the pond works naturally.. rather than trying this chemical and that chemical as a temporary fix. It will only be temporary if you do not find the cause of the problem and fix the cause.

Hi there

I have found with my pond with koi carp in gets a little bit of green algea

The way i cure this is to filter the water through barley straw

The barley straw can be bought from focus or other pet shops

It makes the water slightly pale brown after about a week........

but all the algae dissapears then too......and the fish are happy

hope this helps
