Great Looking New Cave

Thanks for the thought loraxchick. I'm just feeding him hikari betta pellets which is all I've ever fed and I've never seen this film before though. It's back again already

I use Hikari betta pellets too, and noticed that causes an oily layer on the water.

love it :D

we use hikari sinking algae wafers for the plecos/cories and there is a definate oily/irredescant layer in my pump (not tank though as its got too much movement to see)

If it's not the cave then try taking the shells out. If the oiliness dissapears then you'll know it's them ( I suspect it is ) and you could always replace them with some clear quartz or snow quartz crystals since you have a white theme going on ( wash them well in hot water first ) . Quartz is an inert mineral and very safe for aquariums.

I might give that a go myself actually. I have a really nice quartz point that would contrast my black gravel in Bronson's tank...

I went to one of my LFS's today and they have rose quartz in one of their tanks which looks really beautiful under the lights.
