I am slowly loosing all my fish. Tank was set up over a year ago then I upgraded to a brand new 250L tank. Previous to this I purchased a new external filter and ran it for 2 months in the old tank to seed ready for the transfer. the new tank was set up early january. I put in brand new gravel to make sure everything was pristine clean. Tank was cycled no problems with water stats.

All has been fine since about a month ago. Firstly my 2 guppies died that id had for a year, then my 6 danios, followed by several other fish and both my year old rams. Last week I lost 2 female cockatoo cichlids and several neon tetras. There have been spaces of sometimes weeks between each loss. Symptoms have been mouth rot, and others seem ok one day then just go belly up. I also had an outbreak of whitespot which i treated sucessfully. (Have not mixed meds).

I have been treating with Myxazin and have dosed twice now but im still loosing fish. I am assuming its some sort of bacterial outbreak that is very strong.

Water stats are as follows

PH 7.8

Ammonia 0

Nitrites 0

Nitrates 20

Temp 78

I do a religious thorough gravel vac and 30% water change once a week. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated .

i would stop the meds.. and start water changes.. lots and lots of water changes.. it could be a bacterial infection.. in which case water changes may fix it.. meds could be doing more harm than good.. they should be a last resort.. is there any chance you introduced something into the tank? (air freshener, hairspray, soap residue on your hands) ... start with %20 water changes daily.. and let us know if this is helping.. when in doubt.. change the water

Is there any other kind of bacterial med that is stronger?
Do you feed live food?
Have you added any new fish?

It does sound like a very nasty bacterial infection.

The myxazin dosn't sound like it doing much. How long have you been using it.
Bad case of columnaris kill a tank load of fish.

I have been informed on this forum that Myxazin is the best there is.

I dont feed any live foods - but do feed frozen

Think the culprit may have been a fish way back as ive had problems for a long time. Every time I think things are ok another one starts to get sick :-(

I first dosed the tank about 3 weeks ago and finished the second dose on sunday. I guess im just going to have to sit this one out and hope for the best.

Should everyone get wiped out would I have to start all over again and wash out the sponges etc in the filter and go through the recycling all over again?? :-(

For columnaris in the uk pimafix and myxazin.
Myxazin is good but not on a severe bacterial infection you really need antibiotics.

this is exactly how i felt a few months ago when i would wake up every morning put the light on and have to take the deseased out.

i think i had a bad case of collumnaris(correct spelling???) it was my platys that got hit the hardest. killed about 5 of them, 2 clown loaches, 1 gourami, some harlequins and some of the others.

i had to just sit it out, i kept on doing water changes and at the time i was dosing protozin becuase i thought it was fungus on the platys mouth.

its horrible- i feel for you(it almost made me want to give up)

I tried phoning the vets to see if I could get some antibiotics but they didnt treat fish. They gave me a number of a local vet that does but they said the only way they could help me was if I bought one in and they did some skin scrapes! Sounds stressful and costly to me so id sooner take my chances on helping them myself......

OK will do plenty of water changes and I have some Pimafix so will give that a shot. I now notice my Plec hasnt touched her cucumber for 2 days now - not a good sign as she normally demolishes it.

If i loose the lot I dont know if I have the heart to start again and maybe go through this again.
