Got My New Betta, What Do You Think? :)

The plant in question grows very nicely on my window sill. It is a terrestrial plant, that's for sure, and don't let the petstore tell you any different. Many petstores commonly sell submerged plants. They are not true aquatics.

I'm truely sad quoting my own post, but I did some digging and the varigated plant you have is Dracaena sanderiana, which is definitely not an aquatic. It's a common house plant, hence it doing well on my window sill outside of my aquarium. Just for your information. It bugged me not giving you a scientific name in my first post.
:S

A little off the thread: I have some bamboo rooting. I see them growing in vases in marbles and betta tanks submerged or nearly so. What uses can I put these rootings to? Do they need some part out of the water? How much can be submerged?

Anyone know

Sorry, Spooksy. We really love your new pet and welcome to the forum.
 :D

Funny you should mention that, the plant spooksy has is a form of bamboo too. So going by what is said, is no good in betta bowls....

You could always pop tham in tiny glass tubes like test tubes and give them as little gifts.

Heavenly Bamboo looks nothing like the stuff Spooksy has or the bamboo I have. I have heavenly bamboo in my yard. It gets about 8" tall and has red leaves in the fall. It's a landscape plant.

The so called bamboo, which is not a true bamboo, that I have is called lucky bamboo. It will grow in low light with only fertalized water according to some sellers.

I don't think either one is related to Spooksy's plant.

The lucky bamboo you see in shops is all green and i have seen it growing under water and the top comes out, but it only lasts a few months to maybe a year and the lower leaves rot off quicker.
The one you have is a variegated type and doesnt last as long. Both types love to be wet around the feet though and may do ok in a shallow betta bowl but they would still be needing fed.
Its probably best that its taken out though, shame really, as its a nice plant to look at.

Sounds right. The heavenly bamboo I have in my yard is the one that gets smallish red leaves and berries in the fall. Nothing like my lucky bamboo or the variegated plant Spooksy has.

In all I suppose I won't put my lucky bamboo in a betta bowl.

Take the plant back with a copy of the online description and ask for a true aquarium plant. They sell plants all packaged and labeled in the LPS chains.

He's lovely, i like your bowl too.

swapped out my current plants last night and added some hardy aquatic plants to my tank, also attached some java moss to my bogwood and one of my rocks. :)

Also I got Merlin a Girlfriend... pics to follow.
