It looks sorta like a very small minature loach. It's very active. It was love at first sight 30 min. ago when i bought it for my 30 gal. Just wonderin are these catfish rare cause the ifs only had one? God these critters look awesome.

No theyre not rare. You say its active? That sounds odd, banjo cats are well known for being the laziest fish on the planet, mine are so lazy you can pick them up with your hand. It should look like a piece of bogwood with leaves attached, i have never seen one that even remotely resembles a loach. Can you post a pic to make sure what you have is s banjo cat?

banjo

not a good pic but what they should look like unless you get hold of a white color one!

I'm concerned its actually a Hillstream Loach aka "Borneo suckerfish". Some breeds of hillstream loach can grow pretty big (11" ) but the bigger problem is that they are cold water fish and don't enjoy tropical temperatures.

hmmm today it has a red nose. I'm completely sure it's something else now. It can't be that hillstream loach. It was in a tropical tank when i bought it. It might be mistaken for another fish because the person at petsmart was new. They're usually the best if's in my location. I'll post a pic as soon as possible. Thanks for telling me. The if's person told me they were very peaceful. I saw other fish bothering it and it didn't even do anything. Once it got in my tank it's pretty active now. I'm concerned about it's red nose. I checked on the net. It looks like a mongoose loach sorta.

good news. Thanks for the help everyone. I called the Ifs and they said it was a zipper loach. It fit the description. Still can't find out why it has a red nose. Thanks for all your help.

Hi all

I have three of these Banjo Catfish and they look exactly the same as the ones in the picture. They were sold to me as Banjo Catfish too. Mine are certainly not active, except when I turn the tank lights off they whizz around for about 10 secinds and thats it, the rest of the time they sit at the bottom, usually hiding (not very successfully). So I am confused now! Are they Banjo catfish or what?
