Got 2 New Bettas Today!(and Some Equally Good News)

Hmmmmm sorority wasnt going to happen for a LONG time anyway but i wonder if she is a boy?

She stresses like a girl and is brown on her body, far less colourfull than any male ive ever seen.

Argh confusion

It is deffo a male. That first picture of it in its new tank is classic Male PK flaring, big beard, long ventrils, trapezoid shaped anal fin and classi male dorsal:)

hmmmmmm, doesn't explain the colouring though and stress stripes. And the ventrils are quite short

Nessi can be a boys name too

Whatever IT is, it is one of the most beautiful betta I have ever seen! And I like Nessi ....

I'm not quite sure why you believe the colouring has any bearing on sex, as it doesn't and Males get stress stripes too.

You said that initially it was believed to be a male but is now definately female, what changed your mind?

The only reason I am telling you, is just incase you ever think about adding more females.

hmmmm i am giving "her" a close inspection, and yes i am taking into account that s/he stresses very much like a female as i have never seen or heard of a male turning light brown and getting very dark horizontal stress stripes before. None of my boys have ever done this, they have lost colour but not to the point of being brown before.

This deserves an investigation, Anybody else got an opinion? I need to know lol

boys get stress stripes just like girlies. ive seen it lots of times in the pet store in those horrid little cups. also that fish is TINY. give it a few months before really making your "sex" judgement. id be inclined to say with reasonable certainty that that is in fact a PK male ...as his fins grow watch for a pointy anal fin(a big giveaway and he looks like that might be the case from the pics i saw)..also have you tried to get it to flare? i know girls can flare too but they lack the big beard of males. worth a try but it is still pretty small and might not notice or care to flare being so young. also keep an eye out for a bubblenest (yes girls can make them too but if all factos point to male, and then a nest appears, youve got yourself a boy- a pretty one at that. more pics might be helpful from a side angle to really look at those fins. although that fish has a bit of growing to do, which is why i suggest waiting a few months to see.
just some things to think about.
glad your job went well :hyper:
cheers

Haha my mom picked it, she loves the fish and likes to watch them flare at themselves, i'm working on setting her up a Rasboras and endler large heated and filtred bowl (15litres min) for the living room, it'll be a surprise for her lol.

Broms fins are growing like no tomoro, he's still a little skittish but is enjoying having his 6gal to himself, i doubt i'll put anything in with him.

Aw that is nice he is settling in (his name from Eragon any chance?) Aw that is a lovely surprise, she is going to love it!
