I have a 90 gallon tank with Convict Cichlids. I just want to know what type and what brand chemicals should I use to keep my tank stable. Been running the tank just fine, fish look great, just looking to see what's out there. Thanks!

I use "Prime" water conditioner by Seachem. It's the best one and most economical in my opinion.

I'd always advise keeping chemicals to a minimum, unless there is a good reason to be adding them. The only thing that I'd add as standard is a good quality dechlor.

As above, no need for any chemicals apart from a good dechlorinator, personally I use kockney koi pond dechlorinator, as its cheaper than aquarium brands, concentrated so you dont use much each water change.

Then the only time you add chemicals would be if you need to medicate for any reason.

Alot of LFS will try to sell you stuff to help clean the water, reduce algae, filter aid stuff, its all pointless and an expensive. The best way to maintain an aquarium is with regular water changes.

I use Prime as it's about as concentrated as pond dechlors, readily available at LFS which don't stock pond stuff and can be used in emergencies to shift ammonia to ammonium (rendering it non-toxic).

Any other chemicals are generally either a waste of money IMO or are a bit risky working with for the average aquarium.]

Other than plant ferts, where I use dry powders to mix my own since it's far cheaper and more flexible.

Use water changes with water conditioner only. No need for any other junk. a Good filter
and weekly water changes your fish will be happy and healthy.

Normally I just use what ever dechlor is cheapest.

On the note of water conditioners, I heard that when you have chloramine it is bound to ammonia so when you remove it you end up with ammonia in the water? Prime would detoxify this ammonia right?
