I don't like the people at Wal-Mart ether. Every five minutes they keep coming up to you saying "can I help you?" it gets soooo anoying.

is 6 velvet plants enough for the tank? And is 3 two pound bags of gravel enough for a 10 gallon tank? When I get some pictures in, the tank is going to be VERY colorful.

I am so flippin happy :band: :band: :band: :music: :fish: :music: :drink: :drink: :drink:

Oh! The Excitement!!

Really it sounds good. Six pounds of substrate is a good start, as are six plants. If you really do have six females, they won't share their caves, so try to make hidy territories for each girl. I have used the betta cups, very small plant pots , about 2" diameters and less. Each girl needs to have a place to call her own, not feel crowded or threatened, and to hide out at.

I think it is good to keep the substrate at a minimum for this tank. Substrate takes up room.

I have never used undergravel filters. I hear they can be a problem to keep clean. I think I would chose a Whisper filter on sale. The females can stand some current so a bio wheel Penguin is not out of the question. But thinking ahead, a Whisper will work out with your betta keeping better in the long run, probably.

Keep us posted!!

Hey!!! Stop drinking so much!!! Your fish need you. :p

Well just got back from Wal-Mart, got the undergravel filter in there. I just thought I would take a break and tell you guys that I'm a little nervous. What if it dosn't hold, what if they all die, what if......do you guys think I'm worring to much? I'm just sooooo excited. How long should I let the tank cycle?

I got the water in just now and the filter is running, can you guys tell me how long to cycle the tank. I only put 5 of the plants in there, because the sixth one broke. Can anyone think of any prior knowledge that I should know?

Let it run for a while . With a heater let it run a couple of days to get the water temp steady. Without a heater it doesn't much matter. It won't actually cycle w/o a fish or ammonia in the water. The bettas will be ok w/o a fully cycled tank as I understand it. Just do some frequent partial water changes at first.

And hey! anyone if I'm incorrect here about anything, give a holler!

Let me know how that underground filter works for you. If you don't have live plants you might want to add a snail or two to help clean up left over food.

I can speculate but never had an undergravel filter, so it's just guessing.

Are there directions with it? When in doubt, read the directions.

Sounds awesome~ I have a sorority and I love it! What you've got so far sounds great, but I would however suggest to add more silk plants. I have 12 plants in mine, 10 silk, and 2 plastic. Your girls are going to be very feisty, and I can only anticipate your threads to come about them fighting and being worried, b/c I was the same way. About the cycling JollySue is right. I just did frequent water changes at the beginning, and everything was fine. Can't wait to see how it comes along. It sounds very colorful! Also invest in some clay pots. walmart has them in the garden center for like 38 cents a piece. I had a thread several months ago on my homemade things that cost me hardly nothign to make. And it's really fun to work on something and then have it forever in your tank, and when ppl comment on it you can say that you made it!
