Good idea for a kids tank?

Id go for a Juwel Record 60 for a child, filter, heater, light and hood included all set to go for 60 quid stg, much better size at 12 UK gallons, and they work as well ive had one running for a couple of years with no problems, we all know the light is crap but perfectly adaquate for viewing, a decent little tank for the price.

And ottos are really cool little fish, i love my ottos

i had one of those fish are fun tanks and they are good, i had guppies ottos and corrys, guppies and ottos can be tricky and die quite easily ,but they are both so cheap just keep. the light in it is rubbish though and cant be replaced. so live plants are tricky, go for java fern and other low light plants and they should be fine. i think the filter is pretty good for that size tank

I find the light in mine is fine and am successfully growing vallis, amazon sowrd and another medium light plant with great success. My vallis grows about 30cms a week.

The filter is very good but i added a small internal aswell just to be on the safe side.

I love how the filter is above the water surface so the surface is disturb when the water is returned to the tank.

also another thing you might want to know if you get the 13 gallon with stand the stand is very very well made so no fear of breaking.

The trick to ottos is that they need a well established tank (has been up and running with fish for at least 6 months) with VERY low NitrAte levels as they are very sensitive to nitrAtes. Same with guppies and neon tetras from what I have read on here.
