well my replacement tank is being delivered between 1 and 3 today. so when the guy phones to let me know hes an hour or so away i have to

net 6 large discus and 4 rams
get them in temporary accomodation ( a big plastic box i have with a heater and air pump) not ideal but it works
drain the old tank
disconnect the filters , heaters and lights
help the guy carry out the old tank
get the new tank in
connect everything back up
fill it
get it up to temp
re-introduce the fish

should be easy right . hmmmmmm come on this is me we are talking about

good luck with everything mate!

do you have any substrate in the tank?

thankfully no . when i took the plants out i went bare bottom to make cleaning easier. which is going to prove a godsend today

you shouldn't have a problem then mate   :good:

good luck hope all go's well
it is stressing to both fish and humans as well :shout:

Just stay calm with it and you wont have a problem if you get a chance, get some cheap pond pumps to get the water back into the tank quick. My MA are selling some Blagdon 550 liter an hour ones for £11 and I used one on my tank move and it was a god send speeded stuff up massivley but I wish I had got 2 or 3 then I would be laughing.

Good luck with it! And obviously as ever pics when your done :D

Mark,

Good luck! I hope it all goes well.
I redid my tank this week. Got rid of my Malawi setup and got the same tank ready for the general tropicals and oddballs I plan on getting. I was lucky in that I had a qt tank so I could put the few catfish I was keeping in there. Though I still wanted to get the job done as quickly as possible as I wanted to keep the filter going.

Let us know how it goes.

Oh the joys of tank swapping, did the same the other month swapping the contents of my 260 into a 350l tank. Now with Chops here I am going to have to do it all again as hubby has measured up and we can just fit a rio 400 into the same space.

Hope it all goes ok :good:

Yep, going to be quite stressful I imagine.

And there's me not looking forward to taking down an empty Vision 260... C

I must have missed something

why are you changing tanks?
was there a fault with the otehr one?

cheers everybody , all done just waiting for it to get up to temp now. as for pics nothings changed lol the tank is bare bottom ( i finally gave in) with my huge chunk of wood in the middle. the discus actualy seem to prefer it this way , plus cleaning is so much easier. all i need to do now is get a new background

simonas this is why the tank is being changed. not the hood/cabinet thats stayed , just literally the glass box .

wills its all good , i drained it with some extra large emergency fire reel hose , then just re-filled again with hosepipe. :good:

shroob , a 260? yes please lol mines almost twice that

the lack of substrate was indeed a real blessing . all went smoothly apart from 1 little error on my part. i got 1 filter running , then couldnt work out why i wasnt able to get the syphon going on the other 1 . after about 5 mins i realised that i had put inlet/return pipes on the wrong way  .

well come on it wouldnt be me if there wasnt at least 1 little cock up

man i forgot how long it can take to get 120 gallons of cold water up to 30 degrees!!! oh well the missus has said she will put the fish back in the tank for me when its there so im off out to get well and truly inebriated :drink:

Priorities are in the right place then haha. Glad you can trust your missus to complete the job for you. I think i could count on mine, albeit i'd worry for quite some time whilst i was away that she was coping ok :)

Looking forward to seeing the pics once its all settled down.
