Goldfish

HI!

I don't currently own any goldfish, but I did have them in my aquarium before. After reading how big tank they requier I gave them away to a pond...
But one day I would like to have them again, really. They were my first fish and I don't know I just really like them. So one day I will have aquarium, a really big one and I want to have goldies in there (with long fins like comets, not fancy goldies).

I am preparing for that day and doing research. What do you think would go with goldies? Some bottom fish, algae eaters - don't want plecos, I have those in tropical aquarium, they need warm water...

i agree they are very simple fish to care for yet they are still ace fish.

in my tank i have weather loach. they dont eat algae but they eat uneaten food, which is a bonus. i currently ony have one but im going to get 2 or 3 more soon

They need heavy duty filtration and weekly cleaninh. I love my goldies. They are great and I can see why you love them so much. It’s great that you did give yours up but I would think that had to be tough but you did the right thing.

Goldies should never be housed with algae eaters as they suck on the goldies sides and cause a lot of problems. Even plecos will do that. I just scrub my tank when I clean it. I know it’s a pain and I wish I could keep a pleco or algae eaters in there but I don’t want the hassle.

You could keep your goldies with some snails and corys. What kind of goldies were you thinking of? I have orandas and shubunkins. The shubunkins are very energetic and always on the go. Actually I just got my two shubunkins Scooter and Sparky and love them, I have two. I also have a telescope named Bugsy. I also have a top hat named Topsy and a red oranda named Mango. I have a red ryunkin named Patches.

Ryunkins can be aggressive but mine if far from that. He has never caused me any problems.

The problem with keeping other fish with goldies is that goldies are cold water fish, most other fish are not coldwater and prefer higher temperature. I would stick with just a goldie tank personally.

Well I used to keep commons and they were really nice When we first bought them we didn't know much about fish actually...The usual story...Went to a shop an saw some goldies and bought them. We had to buy aquarium and were assured that a 54 liter would be more than enough for our goldies
They were sold together with a pleco and a chinese algae eater...It wasn't long till I realized, after reading a lot about goldies, that that tank was very very small for them. But I just wited for a year hoping they will not grow that fast...They were all named
Finnaly I decided I need to let go and I gave them to a friend of mine who now keeps them in a pond. I can still see them every time I am there
As for the pleco and CAE - they never seemed to bother my goldies but I know that it must have been stresfull for them too because they need warm water, not cold water...

well I was kinda thinking about adding some bottom dwelers in the tank with goldies - some cold water ones. and I was thinking of getting some from our country (rivers, lakes) - I know you can buy some as they are being bred, I am not planing on fishing them myself...
