Golden Sucking Loach Attack!

I got two GCAE and only 1 wos agresive so i took it back. the other one is fine-do you think it will become aggresive to?

Eventually, it probably will. Some people get lucky and have a relatively laid back one, but as they mature they switch diet from algae to meat, which usually means the slime coat, scales, fins and eyes of other fish.

i had to give mine back to the LFS after 2 years she (not sure but we called her hilda) started attacking the fish
We got a bigger tank but she still did it so she ended up going back to the LFS for free :( i missed her

Ive just read this and am now wondering what to do with my 2. I have a tank with guppies, glowlites and corydory's and one of the loaches has doubled in size in a month and after reading this thread im very tempted to go speak to my LFS about them taking them back. I wont ask for any money to be cheeky ill ask about a swap.

Any advice on a replacement for eating the algae?

i got my first apple snails when i took the loach back
and have 13 of various colours now and they clean it well and as long as you have enough algae or if you dont have enough algae you feed them they will not eat your plants

Yes! Otto cats work great as algae eaters. Otocinclus stay small, around 2 inches IIRC. The best thing is that they are cheap and usually readily available. Depending on the size of the tank, bristlenose plecos also do a great job. They only get to 4 or 5 inches with 6 inches being extreme. Either one makes a fantastic addition to a tank with algae.

A bristlenose plec would be great. Active, peaceful (can get a bit pushy at feeding time), and are smaller than a gull grown CAE.
