Loony.
I found him. I'd done a water check as the fish looked a little uncomfortable and the nitrites were up. I knew he'd be dead. He'd never hidden like this before and when I found him there wasn't much left. No wonder the water quality had gone ick. Seems he must have gotten caught between or near the synos in their nighttime antiques and panicked. I have large piece of slate near the back and he seemed wedged there so he must have gotten stuck and died. Poor thing. 
Naturally I did a good sized w/c immediately. Just got to break the news to my daughter now.
