Fizban has a 110 gallon and was advised against it, as they get to 70 cms! You have the same size tank as I am currently setting up, so I assume it is around 1 metre long. So you are right; not much swimming space....... (I am using the metric system, since I guess from your name that you are Dutch  )

There are though enough other nice gouramis around, which do not get that big, and would suit your tank: pearls, thick-lipped, striped gouramis etc. I find this article to very informative when it comes to choosing gouramis: gourami article

Edit: link was not correct!

this is mine, its an old pic since i havent gotten the chance to get a new pic...

they are normally white, but mine is special, this one aint for sale either, i got him for 50 usd since i know the store owner, the normal white ones go for about 40 usd around here. the white ones are really common here, every moderately good store would have them and trust me, iv been to around a hundred stores looking at these gouramis.

im trying to convince my mom to let me get a 300 gal

I'd like to find a Giant Gourami. Anyone know of a store, online source that sells them? I'd prefer to get one larger then 6". We have a 370g aquarium that is 40" wide.

Jason, what color is yours? What store did you buy it from? what size was it when you bought it?

Indonesian Giant Gorami, Osphronemus goramy, is an indigenous species in western Indonesian freshwater found only in Java, Sumatra and Borneo Islands :good: . The fish has been traditionally cultivating for a long time and it’s most expensive among the Indonesian freshwater fish. There was a report on genus Osphronemus which comprises three species: Osphronemus goramy Lacepede, 1801, O. laticlavius and O. septemfasciatus (Roberts, 1992), but hasn't yet philogenetic research of giant gourami in other island.

this's giant gourami female broodfish, about 50 cm in length and 3.5 kg in weight.

i've seen them at the fish shop the one i go to they are 180$ australia they are a little over 2 inches [talk bout expensive] but the size they get is well worth it

I had 2 for about 10 years. and I suspect they were stunted by my 300 gallon tank.

barring a few exceptions, these are more of the fish I don't think should even be in the trade..

toward the end, the male was longer than this tank is wide.. I wish I had more pics, but I don't.

I would also note it was impossible to do much of anything relating to aquascaping because if it even resembled a plant they tore it up.. and anything but larger rocks (which restricted swimming space, got bumped in to the walls of the tank. And god help any other inhabitants when they decide to build a nest...

Actually O. exodon, the Elephant-Ear Gourami is also a species, named in 1994 by Roberts.
