Geting 100L

After 8 years of goldfish i think its time for something diffrent. Im looking at this Clear Seal Aquarium & Plastic Hood 36x15x12 for £57 its around 100 liters and im wondering wot lighting and filter would be best. Ive worked out that i need a 100w heater. Also how meny fish can i put in this tank, i hate guppies and tetras as they are small ide rather have less fish but larger.

Eny advice i would be grateful

I would do a dwarf cichlid tank with dithers and catfish

I would do

3 Apistogramma Panduro 1 male 2 female
6 Flame Tetra or Lemon Tetra - if you dont like little tetras these larger disk shaped tetras might be a good option.
3 Red Lizard Whiptails
3 Halfbeaks - not sure on which species but I think there are a few that would be suitable with the nice 3 foot length
5 Hara Hara or Hara Jedridoni Catfish (Anchor Catfish)

nice full tank lots of colour and variety in species - the tetras are interchangeable with lots of species like barbs or other species of tetra.

Where abouts are you from? The fish on that list are uncommon but not too rare make sure you check to see if they can order them in. And make sure you check out tropical fish finder and aquarist classifieds to see if any are around you

i live in rossendale. i have my local thats 10 mins away eny where else and im driveing for 30min or more best place is in bolton i think.

Ah right yeah your in a good spot for fish to be fair tons of good fish shops in Manchester as well. If you can get there Pier Aquatics in Wigan is legendary for their rare fish. Im itching to go one day and I live in Hull haha

The elite tank is good because its just a glass box - which means that you can customise it easier later on - add an external filter etc at a later date if you want where as the other one has a filter built in which not only takes away swimming room from the fish and also prevents you upgrading the filtration - which is usually a good idea in most tanks.

The other tank you could consider is the Fluval Roma 125 a bit bigger than you planned but a nice looking tank and often affordable via ebay or aquarist classifieds Second hand tanks are often easy enough to find and often nothing wrong with them just people either getting rid or getting a bigger or newer tank.

I agree with Wills and think it looks like a good stock list but i wouldnt go for any type of Hara. They can live from 14-28C but thats the summer and winter in the while either end would be to much or to low long term. They do best around the 18-22C mark and the 25C that most tropical fish need would to be much for them long terms Upside down catfish/Synodontis nigriventris could be an option there fairly similar looking and your more likely to see them out.

Cheers Wills bin a huge help, ime more pushed to the elite now but the other tank dose look better ill give it a think. Kizno, thanks for the input ill take that on bord when im ready to start stocking up .

if you want slightly more common fish, but still keeping clear of the tetra, you could have a Barb set-up. They (IMO) are much nicer than tetra to look at, but don't shoal as much. They also are quite nippy to any long-finned fish eg's include (from my personal stocking):

Cherry (stay small, less aggressive, males very red, females more dull)
Drape Fin (small, less aggressive, but can be a bit shy)
Odessa (larger, but with a great red band through the middle, can be aggressive)
Rosey (larger, but good overall colour, can be aggressive)
Tiger (mid-sized but with a different shape. comes in green, gold, albino or 'original', can be very aggressive)

For a 100L i might be tempted to have 8 cherry, 6 tiger, 6 Odessa and maybe 1 or 2 BN Pleco's, but that would leave you fully stocked

Edit: forgot my Golden Barbs. These guys are lovely. simial shape/etc to the rosey, but a nice golden colour

Just a quick piece of advice, make sure your clearseal tank is in perfect condition, check all seals and make sure you place it on a foam/polystyrene tank support.

I've had 2 clearseals blow on me, one cracking the entire length of the bottom for unexplained reasons, so being careful is best.

And the 36/15/12 works out at roughly 125 litres, I've got one, and it's loads of room.

I'd also suggest a dwarf cichlid tank, with corydora catfish (they are great fun to watch)
