Hi there, wondering if i could get some help regarding my stress head betta, Gerome, his just a regular run of the mill blue veil tail i baight 2 years ago from a pet store while i was living interstate, he survived the 8 hour trip home in a plastic bag and everything!

up untill now Gerome has been living in 4l of water so 2 weeks ago i purchased a 40l jebo tank for him and got him some friends a few days after movign him across .. rams, probably not the best idea.. so his been in there for 2 weeks, a couple of days before i moved him across he'd split his tail right down the middle which then turned to fin rot, it had dropped off to as far down as the split i thought it was all over till today! he's split his tail again and the split ends quite close to his body, im worried aobut him now and im wondering if theres anytihng i can do for him to fix his poor tail without moving him from the tank. The tanks heavily planted, except every fish in the tank seems to like the one spot under the filter behind the big rock.

Other than the tank i dont really have any where to put him, his old home was taken over by a new un named resident that i could not resist yesterday, and unfortunately also left a nice dent in my pocket, but his beautiful orangey red and apparently a delta, but he looks more liek a super delta to me, and he has a clear end on his tail and underneath fin, my friend thinks he could be a butterfly delta?.. hmmm any ideas?

his tank mates are : 2 male rams that he frequently chases away from his favorate place, 1 female ram and 2 small bristle nose catfish which he just seems to ignore

PH 7, Hardness 120, nitrite 0-0.5ppm, ammonia 0-0.25ppm

First of all, you're really really overstocked. :/ Too many fish, and bristlenose plecos (I'm assuming that's what you meant) produce massive amounts of waste. Even one will get to be way too big for a 40L tank. Two Rams on their own would probably be okay in a tank that size. I'd suggest that you take the plecos and one male Ram (they like to be in male-female pairs) back to where you got them, keep one male and the female Rams in the 40L, and get the betta his own tank preferably about 10L or so.

Right now I would move the betta back into the 4L container and change the water at -least- once a day. This site can tell you what else to do better than I can.

Good luck with your fishie.

My oldest blue betta went into majoy stress when I moved him to a larger container...fin rot..moping...so he is now back in a small bowl with his own heater a plant and not much room to move but he keeps making me a lovely bubble nest...I dont think he liked the open space.

Can you not find something else to put yours in quick...you might lose him?

Well I don't know bout the Rams too much but if your lil' guy gots the fin rot then you should isolate him and treat til he's all good :D

his looking better today, his not moping at all, swimming round happily, swims around with his top fin spread, the rot is only on the tail, no fins. i've started feeding him on frozen blood worms and thats also made him perk up a lot. he seems to like swimming through the plants, and perching himself on them

all the other fish in there are babies, the gold rams are only about 2cm long, and my overpriced german blue ram is 2.5, and both plecos are around 3cm, im told by the fish store that if they do get too big i can take them back and swap for some more smaller ones or somthing else

tank is still cycleing, my friend and i both set up tanks aroudn the same time and she has a lot more ammonia and nitrite than i do

is my new betta alright in a small amount of water, say 2l? he seems happy enough, he was only in aobut 1/2 a cup of watwer when i baught him. his only wantign to eat things off the surface and will only really go for the pellets rather than the blood worms, is this normal for a pet store fish?

You should get your betta out of there until cycle is finished. It could be why there is problems with him. You have to change 20% of water everyday to keep down ammonia and nitrites. Your friends tank is cycling faster than yours. You will get higher ammonia and nitrites as it cycles more. Bettas with fin rot need very clean water with no ammonia or nitrites, for sure you will lose him if you don't take him out of the tank right away. Put him in any container or larger jar you can find and change the water twice a week. You should put some salt and maracyn 2 in with him. He should be fine if you follow this advise and I am sure other people here are going to agree with me.

his tail looks to be rparing already, the split that appeared has almost closed up.. phew.. ive done another water change and they all seem happy and bright, i baught another plant for them all to hide in today, it looks liek a forest in there..

gerome seems to have been prone to fin rot since i got him, even keeping him in a seperate container with twice weekly water changes didnt help, even before i moved him to the bigger tank he'd split his tail and this is the first time iver ever seen it heal, usually it just drops off to where the split ends.

I had a betta that was prone to fin rot, unfortunately some type of infection took him from me. But I know how it is constantly thinking you have it under control and then it strikes again. Just keep on changing that water everyday, at least 20% even 30% would be good to.
