Geophagus Update

Thanks, it's a 55gl.
Oh right, are the geos staying in there for life or are they going to get upgraded? Ive been considering some geos for my 65g but dont think it'll be big enough, how do you find them in your 55?

Cheers

They are just in there for grow out. They are eventually going to be moved out into my 125 (once they are large enough not to get eaten by my bichirs!). I don't see what you couldn't have a bonded pair in your 65g. If you are looking for a group, though, consider gymnogeophagus, and the smaller geo spp, like steindachneri. :good:

They are great geos out there, you just have to be able to find a place that stocks them. Luckily, a local store has just gotten in some insane geos and gymnogeos. I don't know how I resisted them.

Yeah cheers invader, Ive considered the smaller species before, but theyre just not as impressive as the larger sp like the 'red heads' that youve got etc. Finding a pair will be hard, but ill have a look out for them.

Cheers, Mike

I completely understand. It wasn't easy to find these juvies and pairs that I saw for sale were around $300. Way overpriced. It might be cheaper just to go with the group like I did and get a pair from there. I don't know what I am going to do if more than one pair comes out of this group. Too bad you don't live around here, otherwise I'd happily give you some.

Thanks again. ;)

Just a quick update: The sub-dominant male seems to be something else... the dominant male's mate! :D They've paired off and are displaying to each other and chasing the rest of the geos away from them. It will be interesting to see what happens with them! :hey:
