Does it ever just shock you that you own a fish tank, that your in Control of your own little environment?
I was just sitting here, when all of a sudden, the oddest thing happened.
I was shocked.
I was thinking of my new 55G.
The one thing I wanted really bad, since like...January!
Sometimes I think I'm just too greedy.
I'm always thinking about how I can fit another 1G bowl, or another 10G in my room.
I dont usually just sit a gawk at what I already have.
I think I need to focus now on what I have....hmhmhm..
Just a thought.....

Do you guys know what I'm talking about, or am I all alone in this?

I feel what your sayin. I recently have been coming to the same conclusion. Just today I decided I would just stick with what I have for now, possibly forever.

Oh, I think when I have a place of my own, I might go nuts on fish.
Right now, money and space is holding me back. I'm exceited to see what I'll come up with.
I know that currently, I have all I can handel, especially since I'm still in middle school.

I'm a firm believer in this. I'd much rather have a couple of tanks that I can really spend the time, effort and money to make their best and appreciate then have fish tanks all over the place. 1 african ciclid, 1 planted, and 1 saltwater reef and I think I'd be content staring at them for the rest of my life...

I just have the one planted tank. With such a busy schedule I would never be able to give more than two or three tanks the justice they deserve. For me, having MTS would be a "Jack of all trades, master of none". However, my perception of aquariums may possibly be a little different to the MTS "afflicted".

All credit to those lucky enough to have the time and resources to be able to maintain lots of healthy tanks - unfortunately I doubt I'll fall into this catergory until I retire.

I'm 21 and heavily infected with MTS. My parents don't like it tho! I have 3 tanks up now, 4th sitting in my bedroom waiting for a stand and plans to buy a 40 or 50 gallon breeder! Maintenance isn't too bad. Only my 29 gallon is heavily planted with high light and co2. the otehrs have, shoot me, plastics. So other than my weekly water changes and water tests and feeding I don't do anything!

I think about this all the time... it makes me really proud, actually. I love looking at my fish and thinking that it's me who takes care of them and keeps them happy and healthy.

I find I have to do very little maintanence in my tanks, and I've currently got 7 up and running. The most work is probably my marine tank, and thats just making sure the gravel is stirred up at least once a week, and doing glass scraping once or twice a week. Then theres just a 10-15% water change at least once every 2 weeks.

The 6ft tank pretty much looks after itself because I have a good combination of fish (Geos that sift through the gravel, plecs that help keep the tank clean etc.).

I'm always surprised that people have to do huge ammounts of maintanence on their tank. I suspect its because i dont generally go for plants and this means that thats one aspect I don't have to worry about. (apart from the odd piece of anubias or java fern).

As for MTS, my parents have been fairly supportive, and My dad actually prefers me having more big tanks than small tanks as he loves all the interesting catfish that I have. I can deffinately see myself having less tanks, but BIGGER ones in the future, although I do plan to try some breeding when i get my own place so this may spiral out of control into a whole room of breeding tanks

For some of us MTS isnt about having lots of tanks, its just that we have to because we couldnt keep the fish we do in the same tank.

For instance with my tanks

10g blue lobster tank, inverts with claws don't mix with fish

20g GSP tank, i'm sure we all know about puffers and other fish by now

25g with a Breeding pair of Channa gachua, these would destroy anything i tried to keep with them to protect their young.

25g Paradise threadfin tank, can't be kept with other fish due to it being extreemly delicate and sensative to nitrogen pollution.

25g Exodon tank, Exodons are mean, really mean. Their main diet is scales and fins, you get the point.

30g planted small fish community, fish under 6 inches are yummy.

40g Electric catfish tank. zap zap zap

70g grow out tank, little versions of the big guys growing up for my planned 1600g Amazon biotope

80g Large brackish community, Salt and basic tropicals doesn't mix

200g Large fish community, big fish=big mouths and nothing under 6 inches.

I don't do much in the way of maintainance, i do water changes once a week on most tanks (paradise threadfin and the 200g get done twice a week) which takes a couple of hours, i scrape the algea off the glass when it becomes noticeable and clean the filters when the flow rate slows down.

I feel that way to start with... But then once I get used to them its almost as if nothings changed :dunno: I do pursuade myself not to be selfish though, for instance, that drop dead gorgeous MG betta on KG Bettas (someone on here bought him, but he died in a shipping accident), I was going to buy him but stopped myself when I thought it was selfish to buy him and deny him to someone who would breed him and get more as beautiful as him. Thats why I only buy cheap ones from breeders- they bring as much happiness but save me money and give the ones not as wanted a good home. Other fish wise, I really don't appreciate my 20g. I keep thinking 'If I didn't have the danios....', and it annoys me when I think like that. I wanted them, sure, I ended up with 3 more than I was aiming for, but I should have realised the complications of buying 9 (now 8) full grown, boisterous little devils before I got them. They've gone a bit shy now though, but I can fill the bottom with loaches, which I like :D

LOL, don't forget that his 'small' is a lot different to everyone elses  My 'small' is a pygmy cory, or my 2.5 month old bettas (esp. the female  ).

It is cool to be in control of an environment. I been keeping fish since April 2004 and I have some of the same fish I started with.

When I think about it that way, I am very proud of myself and the fish.

Just my 2 cents :dunno:

i have lots of fish because I like lots of different types. like CFC there in different tanks for a reason, i don't fill all my tanks with the same things!

i'm not obsesses.........much.

I like alot of types too.
I like color, not the same fish over and over again, which is why I hacve never had 2 of the same fish. (Bettas dont count because they are different colored)
I wounder what I'd be like if I wasent into fish keeping.
Your hobby affects you, you know.
I'd prolly have spebnt my money opn alot of different things....
