Sharpening my scalpel.

As Tolak said, we are discussing 'the neutering procedures'. It is our intent that members can chat about whatever they want (well, almost) and foster friendship or camaraderie outside the hobby.

Although there will ALWAYS be a risk that some topics can get out of hand, the moderators have voted to retry this on an interim basis for the benefit of our members. Moderating a freer open chat section WILL be more work for all the staff but we are committed to this forum so we want our members to have a great place to hang.

As for making the other sections dead, it might happen but, ya know, if I had a recipe to post or a car topic to ask a question about, I would still more than likely go to those sections to post. Time will out.

Finally, I like SpongeBob. I'll toss my vote in: The Chum Bucket.

LOLOLOL.

I'm siding with those who think a simple name is best.

Genral Chat - simple, effective, everyone knows what goes on in there without going in and reading a few posts...

abandon hope..... - is this the place for SERIOUS hobbyists? or a chat section, or maybe even the new name for the scientific section?

Social section/club - fairly self explanatory

Try and think of it from a new visitors perspective, at the top ou have a welcome section, then a species index, then FAQ, then you have the freshwater part with well titled sections so most people know where to post, and going down, you should be able to figure out the right place for your post fairly easily, but what happens when you see a section called abandon hope all ye who enter here. ? what is in there?

(just my opinion butIlike to explain WHY I've reached the conclusion I have)

Davey Jones Locker?

Jack Sparrow Lounge?

The Spouter Inn (Moby Dick)

The Spyglass Lounge?

TBH, I'm too happy about getting a general room back to think of a name.

*Does a little happy dance*

I've missed getting to know people outside of 'fishkeeping'.

As to the hobby rooms... I've found the hobbies rooms too restrictive in their sections. I have questions about hobbies that don't have any sort of section (as in, where would I put a question about model trains?) and they don't seem to get much traffic.

I second Wilder's contribution "chit chat", it does what it says on the tin...no one will mistake it for anything else and it is not so formal either
