Eddie, our leopard gecko did summat last night that we've never seen him do before..... just wondering if it's normal or what it means (if anything)

it was towards the end of dinner time, so there were a couple of crickets in the viv but he'd got to the point where he was only half interested in the IFKWIM. Anyway I looked into the viv and he was staring at something, I couldn't see anything following his eye line, he was really slowly swishing his tail around, like dead slowly and gracefully almost like dancing. It didn't seem angry or anything like that cos it was so poised and graceful!

Anyone know what this it?

he might have been showing off to his reflection in the glass or he could have had an itch or be moulting. Probably getting excited about seeing someone he likes :)

he actually shed today, could it be something to do with that?

he could be trying to rub off a little bit of skin that is still attached.

Tail wiggles are a leos way of showing excitement, the type of wiggle indicates what kind of excitement :)

He probably just caught a glance of a cricket and suddenly thought, "OMG oh yeah food, I'd nearly forgotten those were here!!!!"

cool thanks.

we had our first bash at sexing him last night.... we think he may be a she although possibly too young to tell yet.

Tail vibrating is leos showing excitment and i mean vibrating its very fast, my males do it when they smell the females. What you are describing is the scared reaction of a leopard gecko. They will lift their tails very high and wave them slowly, this is so if a bird is comming down they grab the tail and he drops it, runs away and grows a new one, and he can carry on and have babbies. When you looked into the vivarium you most likely startled him and so set off his danger response. Totally normal.

You can sex them at about 6 months, before that is a bit of a gamble really, unless its male.
