Hi All
Been some time since my last post "About 4 months" so i thought i would just give a detailed explination to where i am now and whats happening with my empty setup. well as you can remember.."or have read above previously"..I purchased a used empty tank for 60 quid along with a Rena Filsta xp3. The tank, which wasnt in the best condition, had really really bad water damage and needed alot of elbow grease. having asked lots of questions, i set off...with a bottle of white vinegar and lots of scalpals and rough cleaning materials....2 days later..having scubbed and scrubbed like a piccadilly hoe, i got most of it, off but it still didn't look great. so i decided to fill it with cold water to see what the effects were, and would you believe it...it was fine "headache gone"!!! so i got the tank in to position, fixed the broken door on, and set my cannister filter up with the media, which consists of Carbon and Phosphate remover and fine filter mesh.. connected the Koralia 4 power head to the tank, i set the skimmer up with the pump in the tank "not connected and working yet", and the heater. everything was now pretty much ready for me to move on and get my Rock n Water.
I've been looking around for the past 3 months for some decent live rock. Luckily i got in contact with a guy "on another forum" thats local to me, and was breaking down one of his systems. so i got about 25 kilos of VERY MATURE rock, along with all of his water and sand...RESULT. Some of the live rock had some great coral growth on it. Along with everything i purchased from him, he gave me some great pointers which will help my system thrive...hes been doing reef aquariums for 25 years! i've got a long way to go!! so 4 big buckets full of water, sand and rock, and 2 hours or patient driving and aquascaping later, i had a tank full of everything i needed. I connected all of my lights and the heaters and got the filter running over night, the power head was pumping away, everything was pretty murky, so i left it to settle till the next day. The biggest suprise was, after putting in the live rock, a huge star fish appeared on the glass within seconds. CRAZY! So i woke up the next morning, and this is what i had.........More pictures to follow tonight!!!!
