Garra Rufa And Chin Chin Pets. Please Help!

Do you all think the tank looks okay in general. Could I do anything else to make it better for them.

is it ok to completely submerge it or shall I leave the black cap sticking out.

It needs to be submerged - like Green Kitten Bloke said, it won't work properly if it isn't.

Best thing to do is to follow Fluttermoth's advice in post #4. Very wise lady.

Thanks The heater will be submerged when the next water goes in. The temp has been a steady 37 since yesterday. x

I will move the heater now :)

37c??? That's VERY high, I dont know any tropical fish that should be kept at that temperature....most heaters wont even heat the water to that extreme. What type of thermometer are you using?

Actually I think that's within the tolerance levels of both species, but I agree it propbably doesn't need to be quite that high; 28/30°C should be warm enough.

Its reading 27/28 now. It was a typo. Im still wondering where to get my fish rehomed. I do like the chin chins just not so many of them. There are only 7 of them which are about 10 cm long. The other fish are alot smaller. They dont seem too crowded at the mo. My OH said the levels were testing safe yesterday he is using ammonia and nitrate testing solution. x

Does he know what "safe" is? Some tests give a "safe zone" of up to 0.3ppm, whereas in my opinion, the only safe readiong is 0ppm. I suspect that my opinion is shared by a great many members of this forum. In practical terms, whilst cycling a filter, you need to ensure that ammonia and nitrite never go above 0.25ppm - which means ensuring that you give yourself enough breathing space for levels to rise no higher than that before your next water change. Very often that means daily water changes.

It'd be good if you or he could post the actual numbers.
