do cold water fish need sun light or would a strip light do the same job thinking of making a pond 2 go inside my garage

They probably won't unless your lighting is the full spectrum of natural sunlight. I've never seen indoor goldfish grow as large or as colorful or live as long as pond kept goldfish.

Basically, think of spectrum as the type of light put out by a light bulb/tube.

An indoor pond would be fine, sunlight would be best for it - but yes, florescent light tubes are an alternative.
Most people use these on aquariums :good: .

WILL THEY STILL GROW THE SAME THO ?

The main thing is that you give them enough gallons to keep them permanently in the tank, keep the water quality clean and good via good filtration and regular water changes, don't overstock the tank/pond and give them a good diet etc. If you do this they should still grow pretty large and reach their average potential adult maximum size, what sort of coldwater fish were you planning on having in the pond?

prob 6ft x 6ft x 3ft deep got 3 koi no tench at the mo and just 3 gold fish it will be bigger than what they are in at the mo the koi are about 5- 6 inch at the mo

or do i keep them where they are and keep my tropical fish in the tank in the garage the tank is 5ft x 2ft x 2ft tropical or cold water ???????

I'm sorry but your pond is not big enough to keep Koi. Koi are supposed to grow to nearly 3' long so a 6' pond is much too small. You should trade the koi or rehome them.

Based on your dimensions, your pond is around 800G US so you should stick to comets and/or shubunkins which usually grow to around 12" but sometimes grow larger.

Or if you are certain about keeping them indoors during the winters, you could go with fancy goldfish but it would be best not to mix the fancy and long-bodied as the fancies can't compete for food as well.

Try to give them 100G each but if you have good filtration and airation, you could go with 50G per goldfish. Remember they will probably breed and you could find yourself severely overstocked by next spring.

I am novice but could the gararge not have a sky light put above the pond.

The other people to talk to are those that have indoor pools like restaurants and garden centres and aquatic store not all these show ponds with fish outside.

Perhaps they are in and out but I've notices many places with fish in indoor pools. Certainly the sea life centres have pools with fish indoors but I cannot guarantee the fish are in this 24/7 and have no outdoor access or that they were Loi etc.

Just a thought. Hope it helps.
