Fuel In The Uk

It's payday today and I need to fill up. My mileage computer showed 0 yesterday and it is running on reserve now. I really hope there is something left after all that stupid panic buying. Seriously, there isn't even a strike yet.

at 146.9 near me, I'm relcutant to fill up at anytime - so an impending strike causes me no concern.....at worst I'll simply have an excuse to work from home when it happens.

my car is in bits at the moment so fortunately im not having to deal with all these idiots. i very rarely fill up anyway, maybe on payday. i already know i wont have my car next week at the very least, so im not too concerned.

I put 21 quid in yesterday for 14 litres its getting Pethetic now

I intended to fill up yesterday.
Had 3/4 of a tank, so just in case. There was a massive queue at the petrol station, so I didn't bother.

Just heard on the radio that there won't be a strike until after Easter to "create the right atmosphere for negotiation".

Personally, I think these people are holding the country to ransom. Sure they may have some gripes, but if you don't like the terms of your employment, go and find another job. There are plenty of unemployed people who have no work in today's economic climate who I am sure would drive the tankers.

There was nothing left in my area. Managed to get to the supermarket with my reserve tank, but won't risk leaving the house until there are supplies again and people stop stupid panic buying.

Well filled up £25 at an asda near me at 137.9 petrol only as deiesal had ran out,
That should see me untill sunday at 1am :good:

45 grand a year to deliver petrol is ridiculous. id do it for half that. if they dont like it they should do one and let some other people take the jobs. 20k a year is more than enough for somebody to live a nice enough life, the drivers, or more likely their unions, are a total joke.

Just popped out and put £20 in no problems, straight in Straight out.

Is that how much they get paid then?

I dont think that is unfair tbh, Im a Hgv Driver, firstly it cost almost 3k to get your license then every 5 years we have 3 licences well 4 if you drive a tanker that have to be re-new'd at OUR expense (£35 each) every 5 years we have to do 35 hours training at £100 for 7 hours, again paid by us, the tanker or ADR course is nearlly a 1k and has to be updated regularly at a big cost. So personally I dont see a problem as hgv driver you are bound to strict rules and have to constantly pay for one thing or another to have the privalidge to earn money driving.

plus driving a fuel tanker is a dangerous and responsible job, so should be paid accordingly.

while it seems you do have to pay a lot of stuff, to somebody earning 45k a year i dont think the things you've listed are going to cause you much concern. ok so 3k to get the license, fair one thats a big chunk. but spending 150 quid every 5 years renewing licenses is hardly wallet busting, neither is 500 quids worth of training every 5 years. even i could put money aside over the course of 5 years to pay for those things, seen as i knew they were coming - and i was on 45k a year.

yes its dangerous and responsible, and im sure you know where im going with this, but its not as dangerous as getting shot at in afgahn, or fighting fires. and they definitely dont get paid 45k a year. my next door neighbour has been in the RAF Regiment for a good 15 years, he gets paid barely half that. hes been to iraq twice, afgahn twice, and had to deal with a broken marriage because his job kept him away so much. id say hes worth 45k more than a lorry driver is.

and on the subject of paying for things to earn a living, one of my mates is STILL in training to be a surgeon. he started when he left college, we're now 27. the NHS give him 700 quid a year to pay for the courses, tests and training he HAS to go on. problem is those things have actually cost him, and other doctors, 11 grand so far. so your 650 quid every 5 years is hardly comparable. sorry.

im not trying to be rude, but those are the numbers. please dont take offence. its not your fault, or my fault, that soldiers and doctors get ripped off, but when you compare them to these tanker drivers, i think its pretty disgusting.

my point was its the same for all drivers, even those like me starting out on not very much, were every penny counts. its another tax on the working. Its nice to know with hard work there a big rewards.

were did you get 45k from anyway, Iv'e had a look and not one tanker driving job is any were near that amount?

people choose to do a job and know what it pays, i.e being in the services while it might not pay loads they knew it full well signing up.

My theory is that the government is scare mongering on purpose, knowing full well that if they say " don't panic buy" All the idiots will run out and clog up the fore courts. How much extra income has the Government made in two days through the extortionate fuel taxes?? sales up 172%= Millions £££

And just before the end of the financial tax year!

British tax payers Robbed blind all day every day.
