Fry!

They can't drop two batches. She's probably not the mother. Do you have another female?
Also, I thought it was possible for livebearers to drop some fry, then birth the rest a week or two later? My Swords do it all the time, but this is my first Platy batch..

Yes, I think it's possible.

I won't believe it unless I witness it. It's not possible for platies or guppies anyway. I haven't bred swordtails but they are closely related to platies. Normally people just get confused which female has given birth thinking it's the same one or just see fry in the tank a week later when in fact these may have been born just hours before you trapped the female but were in hiding for that period of time which is always the case. Fry in a bigger tank will grow slower because they have less access to food and will appear smaller than their own sisters and brothers in a well fed fry tank. And it's a common claim that they give birth 1 week or 2 weeks apart but it's biologically not possible.

Im only saying, cause I have very distinct fish in my tank, and the mama was caught for birth. They are hers, and shes still pretty big, a week later.

Are you saying that she gave birth in a breeder trap, then you let her in the tank and then caught her again a week or so later and she gave birth again? What made you put her into the breeding trap the second time? Her size?

No, Im saying that THIS platy, was caught the first time, and gave birth, but now, a week later the same platy looks ready to birth again.

You said your female swordtails regularly gave birth to fry a week apart, so my curiousity was for the swordtails. Sorry for not being more specific. As for the platy, if she gave birth a week ago, she has another 2-3 weeks before she gives birth again. Platies are not skinny and elegant like swordtails anyway and look pregnant most of the time.

My swordtails (at least my red wag girl) gives birth like that. Shes distinct in her colors too, and Ive watched her birth, then a week or so later birth again. I usually let her give birth in the main tank. I spend a LOT of time watching my fish. Especially when they get to looking pregnant.

Me too, they are much more entertaining than TV

So since I decided what tank I'm gonna get, (75g) the fry might get the 30g to themselves
