From Internal To External

I am moving over to externals from internals. My first external was used and was already cycled for many more fish than I currently have it for so that was simple. The second one is new. Now I know I can just cycle it but I was wondering if I just took the foam out of internals that are in there at the moment and put it in the baskets with the other media would this be enough to keep the tank cycled? I was thinking if it would I could then start gradually removing the foam after 4-6 weeks.

Yes if you take all the media out of the internal and put it in the external you will be fine.
