Well my friend at wal-mart, who I met buy going there all the time (not to buy fish) to buy groceries has an empty 160 gallon tank which she wants me to build the stand for her.

Any suggestions for what fish she should put in there?
And no she does not want an oscar!

I'd say get an army of smaller fishies, a true sight to behold.

Otherwise try looking at Ghost knifes. Truly beautiful.

When we were setting up our tanks, we went to the lfs many times, knowing we weren't ready to buy, but just to do research. We took a pad and pencil and wrote down the fish that really appealed to us. Then, we went home and researched to see which species were compatible with which other species. Then we had to figure out in which order to purchase them. Only then, did we go back to the store and begin to make our purchases.

If you don't have fish that you genuinely love to watch, both for their appearance and their personalities, you won't take care of your fish. The magic has to be there.

If that was my tank? I'd have the biggest female betta sorority on the planet.....

What about a different type of chiclid? Some of them are gorgeous! I just saw a whole bunch of diff chiclid babies at Petco and all I could think of was how one day I'll have a house, and then I'm going to buy a HUGE tank and have bightly colored chiclids, they have such personalities!

A 200 shoal of neon tetras and a 60 platys and three guppies (give them time to multiply!) lol

with a tank that size the sky's the limit (pretty much) can you give us an idea what they want, community? oddballs? low maintenance? colour etc etc

ok so if it's low maintenance i'd advise sticking to standardish community fish so there's nothing with unusual requirements or that is particularly fussy, also leave the tank understocked so maintenance can be every 10-14 days rather than weekly.

i think big communities with very carefully selected fish look stunning, don't go for lots of different species stick to just a few and realyl bgi groups of them. It'll look stunning and dramatic but also peaceful.

i would go for

4 angels with the natural scalare colouring, usually called silver banded or something along those lines
20 congo tetras
20 rummy nose tetras
20 praecox rainbows
20 cories

trust me, it would look absolutely stunning

i've suggested that stocking list so many times, i really want it in one of my tanks (or something very similar anyway) got no room unless i turf out oscar though and Ian doesn't want to.
