Forming The Uk Aquatic Plant Society(ukaps)

It sounds like a good idea to me.

1st step:
Mainly all you need is a web site, UKAPS.org or something...........then folks have a point of contact to go to to discuss their goals etc.

I can offer a subforum on my site, perhaps TTF, PFK would as well etc, but you folks need to control all that and do it ultimately.

It's easy to sell enough plants without a good sized group to do that $$ wise.

Tom Barr

i would also help (if i could in any way)
even if it was just cutting/plants etc

great idea btw :good:

Sounds good. Thanks again, Tom.

Thanks also for the offer of a sub-forum on The Barr Report, that would be appreciated and I would ensure I keep an eye/control etc. I will also have a word with William (TFF admin), Richard (AEF) and Matt Clarke (PFK website editor/developer and web programming guru).

Exciting time ahead I am sure. Looks like you're giving us the kick up the butt we needed!

Thanks again.

I cna offer server space off my 24/7 host servers as a quick fix. I can install everything thats needed.

have a look at www.tenerife-uncovered.com for what i have built from scratch. Its also a massive community so I can gdo web marketing for little or no cost.

I think i will have to start up a teenage ukaps if you adults do!

Great Idea, If we are brainstorming here....

regarding plant swaps, individual members could specialise in one plant species each. If enough members took part to cover every species ......you could always find exactly what you were looking for...... without paying massive $$ for it to be shipped.....

Great news Lee, thanks for that. Something to definitely bear in mind.

John Starkey mentioned a meeting of UK planted tank folk, as you may know - http://www.fishforums.net/Why-Not-Get-Toge...er-t188546.html

We could incorporate this into a informal meeting to discuss UKAPS.

Meeting people in the flesh will get this thing moving much quicker than via the web I suspect. In the meantime though the web is great, of course.

GEORGE you took the words right out of my mouth ,i couldnt agree more i think this is just the right topic for us all to make the effort to meet very soon :good:

The sub forum will be up for UKAPS later tonight(it's 2pm here).
It will be open free access, but you will have register and agree to be part of the group.

I'll stop in and list some thigns that worked well for the other local plant clubs.
You folks can take it from there.

Tom Barr

I just got word from Greg:

"I'll get the UK forum added late tonight ... when it is added, I
will
email you a link asking you if you like the way it appears ...

There are lots of ways to do that ...

My suggestion will be to create a new section titled Clubs and
Societies
... and then under the section header, create the club forum ...

They will probably also want to have one or more of their
members be a
moderator. I can assign any regular user moderator permissions
for that
forum only and they will not have moderator permissions for any
other
forum ...

Thanks,
Greg"

So there you folks go, your own forum for free.
Next thing is to find as many folks in the UK, get them involved and provide a reason to be and stay involved.

Regards,
Tom Barr

One more thing:

You folks can rotate the meeting locations, pizza shacks, pubs, any friendly meeting place with food etc.

That way not everyone drives/trains etc too far every time.
We do that here in CA which is a big place as well.

Once every 2 months etc a meeting, plant swaps every 2-4 weeks etc

Tom Barr
