Well I went flying today at John Lennon Airport (Liverpool)

Quick description, the guy who was with me taxied us to the runway, then I took off, we flow over to Liverpool city centre at 2,000 feet, then down to 1,500 whilst making our way over to the jjb stadium (Wigan) then we flew over to the Reebock Stadium (Bolton) then we flew down to Haydock Park Racecourse and circled my house, then we flew down to the Halliewell Jones stadium in Warrington, then we flew down the River Mersey and I partially landed I say partially since there was a bit of a crosswind, so he helped with that.

Here's some of the pics:

Anyone else here into flying?

Sorry for people with 56k and under, the pics are 1000px wide and 665px long (originaly 3000px wide not sure how long) and between 400-500kb (orginaly 2-3mb)

Lovely pics pieman!

My mum is getting her flying liscense at the moment (apparently it's what you do when you have loads of money to throw around! lol) I'm not sure where she's been learning but she lives in the Accrington type area :)

I cant even begin to imagine how amazing a feeling it must be but go you!!!
:good:

hi pieman,
cool pics :snap: , i bet it was awsome, i would like to wing walk one day, looks like you had a great day, all the best donna :)

Saedcantas : Do you know what type of licence she is getting? Good luck to her anyways! For a alot of the licences you have to be able to land 'blind' (basically were your windows are covered and you have to use the controls and gauges to find were you are).

Donna : I'd love to do wing walking but i'd be too scared  i've seen it done a few times at airshows but thats it :)

that's awsome! I'd love to learn to fly.. but it's soo pricey :(

btw.. what's the age limit over there? You hardly look old enough for a licence lol

I think it's 16 for a private licence, possibly 17 either one of the other, but as far as I know you can fly with an instructor from any age, it's usualy just the training companies choice to only have people around the age of 12 and upwards, probably since they don't want some little child sat there with the chance of crashing the plane if they touch that button lol.

Also, I may not look it but i'm 15 and 16 come January 5th.

I'm starting now because on all the training courses to get a frozen atpl licence (airline pilot licence) you need to have you private pilots licence.

I love flying little Cessnas. 152's, 172's or 182's (or even the P210), they're all fine airplanes.

By the way, I don't know if jets are all that much harder to fly...each aircraft type has its own challenges, and light general aviation (GA) aircraft are no exception. Keep at it, this sort of career can be quite worthwhile if you really enjoy having that type of view from your "office window".

I love flying/aircraft/flight etc etc too!!!

I have had a few lessons also. Was that a trial lesson??

Flying is easy peasy, easier than driving a car. It's the fear factor you have to overcome & the brains to be able to complete the exams & navigation.

I also fly radio control aircraft too.

Down here they do a learn-to-fly package including exams etc for £5000

Trouble is once you have completed the course you have to do at least 20hrs a year to maintain your license, I think you have to be around the 200hrs mark to fly commercially.

It costs around £100 to hire an aircraft + fuel so a bit pricey afterwars too.....

im 13, and i was in a program in the USA called Civil Air Patrol, and u learn to fly planes, do search and rescue, etc. you go to a military base, in my case an army depot, and u learn there. Its basically the Air Force for ages 12-18. it was awesome, but i had to leave due to the leader dying, and his replacements were **** and being busy. maybe in the UK they have a program like that?

Yeah i've seen the packages, what i'm doing at the moment is giving up my guitar lessons so i can go about once every two months, but what I plan to do with some help from parents, is get a job whilst i'm at college then when I finish i'm going to go and do one of these intense private pilots licence courses that take about 3 weeks.
