I'm looking to set up a new tropical aquarium next month, to replace my existing small set up. I'm looking to spend around £350, and have seen the Fluval Roma 240 with cabinet.

It comes with heater, Fluval 305 external filter, and 2 40w bulbs - one a PowerGlo, and the other an AquaGlo.

Is this a good tank to start with? I'll be looking to hopefully have a planted tank, although this may take a little time, so are the bulbs supplied acceptable for this?

Any other suggestions for a tank set up?

I have one, not sure if the lighting is high spec enough, I have never been able to get live plants to stay live in mine, however that may have nothing to do with the lighting.

All in all a good tank, good filter, one word of advice, they can leak condensation from around the tank surround. Fluval for some unknown reason do not use enough silicone sealant, so before you set it up, add more between the glass and the tank surround (you know the black bit around the top of the tank glass!)

Hi Demonlude,

Looks a very nice tank, good size as well. If the bulbs are not suitable you can always replace with your own choice.

What type of fish are you planning on keeping?

Hope you are going to 'fishless cycle' first. :good:

I also found this out but after buying two reflectors at about £8 each my plants have all thrived.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go with the Fluval, and look for the best deal I can find.

Thanks for the tips on the silicone minx, and thanks for the tips on the reflectors Davo.

Dan - I'm planning on keeping the fish that are in my current aquarium (community fish), and yes, I'll definitely be doing a fishless cycle.

I'm planning to get the some brand but a 200.
I think its a good size to start.

But where i am getting mine, its about £300 - £330 for a 200 Litre and cab.
Plus all equip.

First place I checked on the net was www.seapets.co.uk Fluval 200 is £299 and the 240 is only £349

hmmm.......

We just looked in the local pet shop. Mum thought it be better if we got if from there incase there is any problems, then we could just pop down the street to the shop

Hi All I am new to the forum and hope to learn a lot from all you people, I bought the Fluvall Roma 200 and cabinet from seapets you should get a free starter pack with it worth £35 but you might want to think about getting a different gravel, I got the 25 kilo of Dorset Pea Gravel and I washed and wahed it but I still could not get it clean so I threw it out and bought some easy clean gravel. Well I hope to be asking you all a few question's and getting the answers that I will need.

Thanks.

Steve.

Welcome to the fourm Steve :hi:

Been thinking about getting the tank from there, its about £40 cheaper.
So getting that tank online.... it was in good nick when it arrived?

Never thought it was a good idea getting a lager tank over the net.
