i just bought a new fluval roma 240 tank and it comes with the fluval external 306 filter. when speaking to the guy in the local lfs he said i should put sealent/ silicone (which he gave me some of) at some of the fixtures connecting the external filter to the tank but i can't remember what ones, he said this would help if any leaks were to happen.

if anyone could give me some advice this would be helpful as really stuck and not sure if required or not. Only ever had internal filters

Do the pipes for the external filter come up through the base of the tank?

The guy probably thought using that sealant around those pipes to make sure they won't leak. It's not really necessary though. At least he got some more money from you.

a nice LFS O_O

well, he obviously has the concerns of the fish at heart rather than his wallet then ^_^

yeh he is a nice guy got a right bargain with the tank and lots of info but silly me forgot some stuff.

ok thanks, well he gave me some free thankfully
Thats nice of him. Know you've got it you may aswell use it to be on the safe side. I've never had experience with tanks like that, so for all i know leaking could be a common problem

i could imagine there would be some considering the water pressure etc...
