Anyone know of anywhere I can get one of these at lower than normal prices? (hopeful I know). I dont mind buying from Europe

have to agree with the comment above, they're over rated i would buy eheim and some fancy water tester for the same money. if you did want one cheaper i know a while back they offered £50 off as they weren't selling that well.

the output of the g6 is dismal it has a pretty screen but thats the only good thing about it and by reading a few articles online its prone to problems and costly to fix. what size tank will it be going in?

FX5 is proving to be good much cheaper than that G6

I prefer the Eheim 3E,good water flow, clectronic adjustable flow.
Led display will tell you when the filter needs cleaning.
excellent.
Lots of media space aswell

Dismal ? 1000lph ? Thats fine for my small tank.

IMO Its a noisy bucket with media in, everyone is offloading them because they dont like them and its far too big for my needs.

That was my other option, but although the pump is rated with high flow it actually is much/if at all better than the G6. At least when fluval say 1000lph they mean it.

I have an Eheim Pro3 2075, and I am more than happy with it. The G6 will give me easier maintenance, the same flow, and will also tell me when the filter needs cleaning. I did consider the Eheim electronics but decided that most of the electronic functions were not what I was after / or would use.

Theres only so much media space you can use until you end up with some of it being redundant too.

Thanks for all your comments though. Happy to hear other info though. My mind is not made up 100% yet :)

I have 2 x 3E (electronic)

i have a 2078 and a 2076.

The G6 only flows 700 lt/hr.

The 3E 2078 flows 1100 lt/hr

The 3E has stepped flow adjustment via 2 buttons on the top.The 3rd button if you press it tells you when the filter needs servicing(theres a row of leds, each one equates to a month)
They are the best filters i have used, and i have tryed a lot.
Eheims are well made.

Hi Nicolaisam. Where are you getting your information from on the G6 flow rate ? It is the G3 that has 700lph flow rate. The G6 is 1000lph.
Interesting though that you say you are getting 1100lt/hr out of your 2078. Eheim claim it should be more like 1750 don't they ? Unlike Fluval who give a pump rating, and then an honest ACTUAL flow, Eheim make no mention of this.

Servicing on the G6 could not be easier. Takes a couple of minutes. You can even leave the filter running ! I don't really have a need to change the flow rate. 1000lph or thereabouts will be perfect for me.

Eheims indeed are well made. I have a lot of respect for them as I have used many different ones. And I do not like the regular Fluval filters. But the G series is in a class of its own. I also like the electronic functions it has like temperature monitoring, Conductivity...etc.

I have just secured a BRAND NEW G6 from someone who was gifted one but chose not to use it as they were cutting down the number of tanks. For a price I could not refuse.

Ultimately if I decide I do not like it, I will be able to get my money back on it and still afford an Eheim Pro3E. One thing that niggles me about the Pro3E's though is that apart from the 2074 baby one, I don't believe any come with media ? How cheap is that of Eheim !

Opps i was reading the G3.
i was put of a G series when they were demonstrating it in my local shop, and the bloke broke the handle off the cartridge.

If you had a good deal i would try it,nothing to lose.

I brought my media from a bloke on ebay.Was a good price.lol

the 1850 lts/hr is the pump output on the eheim. Fluval has the same on there website for the G6 its 2460 lts/hr for a G6.seems a lot of losses on flow on the fluval.

No worries, its an easy mistake. Im sure you got media reasonably, but I just think that Eheim are already charging a premium price for the E series, the least they can do is include media when they do on almost every other filter they make. With the Eheim Ecco I bought for a smaller tank I had one time, it even came with three boxes of SPARE ehfisubstrat pro !!! On top of sufficient to fill the three baskets. So if they can do that with a low cost filter, why can't they with the ones people are forking out big bucks for. It seems they are prepared to upset customers who are going to spend hundreds but pander to the ones only spending 50 quid. In fact its one of the reasons that put me off the Pro3E.

The G6 has higher losses probably due to its no pass mechanical stage. At the end of the day, the amount of losses means nothing, It is what the filter actually does that matters. Fluval state their pump rating and also what you can expect in terms of real flow. Eheim don't. Also I have been told that to get the maximum flow you have to take it out of electronic mode and just adjust the flow by cranking it up to max. When at this level it is noisier. The thing I love about my 2075 is how quiet it is. You can barely hear it, and that is the same with the G6. My tank is in my bedroom so that is important. A guy I know cranks his 2078 flow down at night, but I would get annoyed at having to do that every time.

Anyway, I appreciate your input. I was kinda hoping someone who was running a G6 would jump in and say how great they are, but I don't really need that. I have the opinion of one of the most respected aquarists in the country to go by, who uses the G6 himself, and ultimately that is good enough recommendation for me ;)

Cheers

NOW, Who wants to buy a practically brand new Eheim Pro3 2075 ???

The G6 is £350 and the 3E 2078 is around £275,i didnt pay £75 for the media,so 3E worked out cheaper.

Eheim do quote both figures,as do fluvalmso no difference there.
I hope the G6 is good,i nearly brought one but thought its functions were more gimmicky than the Eheim

Cheers

My G6 didn't cost that as I bought it from someone who was given it as a gift and then downsized their aquatic setup so decided to shift it on. Its still under guarantee which will be in my name as the product was not registered immediately. That said, you can get £50 off G6's I believe making them only £299. Even if that offer is not running now, you can buy them for that price in EURO equivalent. You must have paid more than £25 for your media though, which still makes the 3E more expensive.

I don't agree that the Fluval functions are more gimmicky. I think temperature logging and warnings are quite useful, and the conductivity shows you how your TDS is going in the tank and is an excellent indicator regarding maintenance. Both the Eheim and Fluval have maintenance indicators, though the Fluval one is more advanced. The only other thing the Eheim has is electronic flow functions which I cannot imagine using. The more I thought about that the more I felt that was a gimmick. Added to the fact that I know someone who has the 3E and has to crank the flow down at night to reduce pump noise, I decided the G6 was more for me :)

Each to their own though, we all have different things we favour, and thank heavens for that. Doesn't make any of us right or wrong because at the end of the day if a filter does its job and the user is happy with it, then Job's a good'un ;)

I will say though, I am going on recommendation. I already have the non electronic equivalent in Eheim and am more than happy at its operation. I just like the idea of the G6 and ease of use more. I would have said "you must be joking" to you 4 weeks ago, should you have asked me "Would you buy a Fluval filter?" But that would have been based on poor experience with a 205 a few years back, which was noisy and flimsy. I believe the G series are in a class of their own.

I will update this once it has been running and I can assess whether it was worth the effort.
