Inlet sponge for a fluval 307 filter

It says will fit a tube od 2 inches diameter the 307 strainer has a diameter of 12 centimeters which is 4 inches.

That's the OD of the sponge, not the Tube...the Tube has an OD of close to 1/2 an inch or 1.27 centimeters.

I'm even more confused now... loll... The tubing is 17mm and the strainer looks like it would be larger but not 5 inches.

What is the diameter of the strainer ? again. (marked in red)

To me, that strainer is too small to use effectively, with any sponge pre-filter.

Add an Aquarium Co-op, small sponge filter sponge and your done, IMHO.

Make sure that the pipe fits over your intake pipe and ditch the original strainer. Bonus if you can find one that you can also buy replacement sponges for.

I have used them as well...problem is, they are too fine and clog easily. I have found the more course sponges work better but, who am I to say???

I spoke to the guy from aquacadabra, he appears to know his stuff, said not to worry if it's only small bits of plants being sucked up. And not fish, I shouldn't put a sponge on it, so that's what I'm doing, I will just run it without the sponge .
