Hello..

I have been reading LOADS of posts and info on stocking the fluval edge and everyone has different ideas lol. I know this is common in fishkeeping and at the end of the day I have to make up my own mind :good: . but.. I want to make sure I have as much info from experienced people to be happy that I am making the right decision.

My tank is a 23 litre (6Gallon), fluval edge, with the small-ish opening at the top.

I have decided on male endler guppies :D I love them ! I beleive that it is a good idea to get something to clean the bottom of the tank, and I know that pygmy shrimp would be ideal.. but if i'm perfectly honest they scare me a little bit.. ! I

1) Is there any other fish that would live/clean on the bottom of the tank, happily in such a small tank!?

2) What would be the ideal stocking numbers for endlers? (and bottom feeder if suitable)

3) Do shrimp swim in the tank? (my bf likes them and i MIGHT be persuaded to give them a go).. but i just imagine that they'll climb out of th tank, or touch my hand when i put it in.. ! :-( Poor shrimp!

Shrimp do swim about, I doubt they'll touch you though, and even if they did what are they going to do? They can't hurt you.

There's not a lot I'd put in there personally, the only bottom feeders I'd put in there are Corydoras pygmaeus, Corydoras hastatus or Corydoras habrosus.

I know they can't hurt me  its just a silly irrational thing lol

They have cory habrosus in my LFS and i really liked them.. how many of them do you think would be suitable for this size of tank?

I have a male Betta, 3 endlers & some shrimp in my edge..
Only had the shrimp a short time, but they're quite entertaining
Corys are happier in schools of at least 6, so your edge isn't big enough for any unfortunately

Hmmm.. I'm not sure about the corys now :/ lol people have different ideas.. I best go do some more research :) !

I'm considering shrimp lol ... They are growing on me :/ !

Thanks for your reply.

I'd definitely skip the cories; to get a decent sized shoal wouldn't give you much space for anything else.

Do consider the shrimps; I wasn't keen on them either, but my son has a couple of ghost shrimp in his Edge and they've really grown on me.

I've had a good experience with shrimp myself. I bought a couple, thinking I wouldn't see them too much and that they'd simply do a bit of 'secret cleaning up', sort of thing. When I bought some a few months ago though, I was suprised how much I actually do see them. I regularly see them walking around and occasionally I'll see one swimming too.

I got red cherries. They're lovely and bright and I would highly recommend them.

Okay.. im defo gonna try the shrimps.. probably the red cherries :) .. I've heard they breed quite a lot.. would my wee 23litre tank be over-run in no time?!?! :S

Normally you can discount the bioload from shrimps, as its so low, but if your cherries bred, you could potentially be overstocked, yes. I'd go for another species of shrimp, like ghost or Amano, that won't breed like mad.

I used to have a couple of dwarf gouramis in my old fluval edge. You have to drop the water level a little to allow them to breathe, doesn't make the tank look as nice but I loved having those two in there I didn't mind. Eventually they got upgraded when I got a bigger tank.

Have you considered a Betta?

Also seem to remember someone once saying otocinclus might be a good idea for munching on the algae, please correct me if I'm wrong :p

Oto's need to be in groups, so maybe not suitable in an Edge.
Chilli rasboras or something equally as small maybe, with a Betta though you wouldn't be able to fill it right up
The edge is a great looking tank, but what you can keep in it is very limited

I don't know why.. i've just never found the bettas appealing to me ..

I hear the otocinclus like to be in larger groups so would be too big :).. I had 2 oto's after following bad advice and now there both dead :(.. Gonna make sure I research everything now :)

Anyways.. Its all cycled now and i'm beginning the stocking :D

I've decided on 8 endlers and 6 red crystal shrimp.. :D

Theres four endlers in there alreay, adding the other 4 today :) Shrimp will be added soon ... Yey!!

I have just fetched some crystal red shrimps of a guy in Yorkshire, for my edge. Great shrimps and a nice bloke, I can pm his details if you wish, he does post too I believe.
