Help please, whilst doing a partial water change the fluval edge filter ceased working after the water level was refilled, it was still making a noise and the impeller was vibrating slightly but not spinning. I've took the filter out, and cleaned it, but since putting it back into the tank there is no noise whatsover despite it having power.

I'm concerned that the fish will die, due to lack of filter, and I cannot get to the LFS to exchange until tomorrow.

Does anyone have any tips on what I could do.

Thanks.

it might need re priming. with my rena filstar xp2, i either pour water from a jug down into the cap that you unscrew from the top of the inlet, or suck it. although with the latteer i get a mouth full of aquarium water lol.

cheers :good:

thanks, i'll give that a try, it's worth a mouth full of water to save the fish.

Well i've tried this a few times, pouring water in , and sucking water back out, nothing seems to encourage the pump to work.

Try poking the impellor a few times with it turned on, they sometimes get stuck especially if you let the water run too low.

I tried that first. and a few times since. Still no joy.

Thanks people, I tried all the suggestions during the course of last night.

Took the unit back to PAH today, and they swapped it saying the motor had burnt out.

Implying I had done it.

They changed mine no problems, but its a bit worrying that if it was to happen when im at work and not on a day off i would have to wait 4 or 5 days to get somewhere to exchange it.

no need to bring it back or anything.just get a small stick(preferably wooden) and try to force start it by turning the wheel which is inside the filter while its turned on.just dont forget to pour some water into the filter itself while you doing that.it usually happens if u are not keeping your tank clean...happend to me a few times but if u are changing water regullary this shouldnt be a problem.
P.S. sorry for my writing if i made any mistakes eanglish is not my mother tongue
