Hey People, I've just joined here so hope I'm posting in the right place

I plan on getting my Betta (currently stuck in a Baby BiOrb )a new home soon and after seeing a Fluval Edge, I'm considering it.

I know it's exensive and all, but I'm prepared to pay it, as it's the only tank I can find that's the right sort of size (can't go bigger as my desk won't hold it :/ ).

Wondered if I'd be able to fit anything else in there with him, and if anyones had any experience with the tank and had any thoughts on it.

Thanks :good:

These aren't really ideal for a betta - as surface breathers they need more open surface area than the edge can provide. The filter could well prove too strong for one as well.

There are plenty of small tanks out there far more affordable and suitable than an Edge.

But it'll be better then his current Baby Orb, won't it???

look for a second hand tank on ebay theres normally a few smallish tanks for sale :good:

Did consider a Chi, but the open top isn't ideal as I obviously don't want to risk him jumping, and despite looking into how to make a lid, my DIY skills aren't up to scratch enough to do so ;)

Checked eBay too, nothing that really sparks tbh

Anyone know what the filters and stuff are like on the Edge? I've seen loads of videos and heard things about Bettas and Edges, and although the smaller surface area could be an issue, I haven't heard much supporting this - seems most bettas appear to cope well and learn where the air is. Anyone found anything where bettas are found to not get on well? I want to ensue I'm buying a good tank for him before spending all that money

Fluval edge filters ar HOB, brilliant, very high flow, can put what you want in it, Polyfilter is the best...

But no good for Bettas... they are too stupid to learn to find the tiny gap of air they are left with... right under the hot bright lights..... they end up going "bang....bang....bang! under the glass to find air... :(

I own an Edge, have so for 6 Months now. It is a great tank, very very beautiful and a nice addition to any room. But i also believe it may not be the best tank for bettas. I lost a immature neon tetra to the filter on its lowest setting. Also, very small breathing area for the Betta. Fluval makes a few other small tanks that are far more suitable for him.

hmm......

Also once thought about a spec, but at 2 gallons is too small, right? Pretty much stuck for ideas really, - I was fairly certain after months of searching that the edge was going to be *the one* but having doubts now

Any other tank ideas? Pets at Home have 14L and 25L aqua cubes, think one of these would be ok? 14L or 25L......?

25 litres is a great size for a betta. I kept mine in a nano cube, but if it has a built in filter it may still be too strong. I took the built in one out and used an elite mini filter.

My Betta up till a week ago lived in a 17l chi and was very happy in it. I deffo would not have put him in and Edge though.

Pets at home have plenty other tanks that are more suitable.

P a H (and other places) sell Clearseal tanks. You can get hex ones with a lid that make a good betta home. I think it was around 9 gallons, I kept it on my desk. Add heater, mini filter, and a clip on light if you like. Very affordable. You don't have to get an expensive all in one branded setup kit.

I'll look into the clearseal tanks. What would you guys say to be the minimum sized tank for a single Betta?

5 gallons would be the minimum you should look at.

The 17L I had would be smallest

Remember you need to cycle your tank first before adding fish.
