I am looking at buying a Fluval Edge fishtank and i am wanting to turn it into a tropical fishtank, however i am unsure which heater i should buy. Fluval manufacture a heater specifically for the Fluval Edge tank and i have read some reviews on amazon and the majority of them say that the heater isn't that good and it doesn't always keep the temp of the water at 26 degrees, although the manufacturers description says it does, im just wondering is there anyone out there who has or had one of the Fluval Edge heaters, and if sooo was it any good? or shall i go for another manufactuer of heater?
Any answers will be much appreciated

I've got a Fluval Edge (well, it's my son's really) with the Edge heater in it and haven't had a problem with it.

Do think carefully before you buy an Edge though; they are a PITA to work on and you're very, very limited with stocking, not to mention the fact that smaller tanks are actually harder to keep than larger ones; toxins can build up to a dangerous level very quickly and you have very little time to notice problems before they become serious without the 'buffer' that a larger volume of water gives you.

If you're new to fishkeeping, I'd very strongly recommend that you go for a standard shaped, roughly three foot/100l tank; that gives you a lot more options and is much, much easier to look after.

Likewise, Ive set up a few edge tanks with the Inbuilt heater and not had any problems.

If the tanks in a fairly warm room you shouldn't have any problems. I only think it would struggle if it was, for example, in a conservatory during winter, or a very cold room.

The problem with he edge heater is that they arent adjustable, this means you cant take in account for different times of year and weather/temp fluctuations and the fact that some houses are a lot cooler than others. I believe the edge heaters are set at 25 degrees celsius but tbh i couldnt get them to hold a temperature higher than 22 as my flat got cool at night.

I know they dont look as good but i just stuck with a Supafish 50w nano heater, had adjustable settings and so was sorted, no problemo...

Thanks for the answers, i ended up buying a fluval edge, and i got a Hagen Elite 25w heater, with adjustable temp so this should be ok.
Thanks for the answers

Hi, just wondering how you went with the heater for the Edge? I was looking @ the Hagen Elite 25W heater as well for my Fluval edge, but the guy @ the fish store said I would need the 50W one.

Ideally with heaters, you need at least 1 watt per litre of water in your tank.

So Fluval Edge is a 23L, 25 Watts should be fine then, right??

It all seems to be fine in my tank with the Hagen Elite in my tank, keeps the water at a constant temp of 25 degrees, so yes id recommend one
