i want a better filter for my 70g and i was looking today a the fluval 304 and they were not a bad price i want to eventually convert this tank to salt water would this filter still be ideal for it . i need some opinoins and some other possible filters that r like it and i want to know all that it does

i'd go for the 404 if you can, i use the 304 in my 55, and when i go bigger i would want more filtration, no complaints but the water isn't as clear as i'd like.

marks69,

Place some filter wool in your fluval unit. Place it as low down as you can as too close to the top the fibres may come into contact with the rotor which is not good.

I have a 304 and have placed the wool in the middle of the stack of media compartments. This set-up produces crystal clear water.

I absolutely LOVE my 304!!! Excellent canister filter in my opinion. Gives a really nice current and filters up to 70 gallons REALLY nicely. It's great for a 55!!

i have some floss in the middle, i just think i need to change it.i have sand in the tank, and the intake was a little low.when the fish stirred it up, it got sucked in to fast and the floss was brown.i moved the intake up 3 inches and it seems to be better.

im running a 250 lieter tank with a fuvial 404 for about 3 months now and have not had any problim at all i cant even ge alge to grow in my tank

Seem to hear that Ehiem's are the choice of those who are well experienced in this hobby. (More expensive though)

But if you convert this tank to a saltwater one, i think the recommended filter is one with a sump. (Correct me if im wrong). Or a filter that would be far greater than that required for a freshwater setup.

anyway before you convert to saltwater check out the Saltwater setup section in this forum
