Flowerhorn or Red Terror

Are you sure? Literally everyone I've talked to said at a minimum 55 gallon. Even Foo the Flowerhorn on youtube has his flowerhorn in a 50 gallon, and that guy knows an insane amount of the stuff.
Heres a profile for flowerhorn on seriously fish. Id trust them over some dude on you tube. The article says minimum of 125cm by 45cm which is bigger than 75 gallons.

Yea get as many pictures as possible. Also try and get a clear photo of the underbelly of the fish. I'm like 99% sure whoever can sex the fish will need that picture.
Sounds good. I'll send some pictures here tomorrow.
Edit: Or I could just send them to you instead

Huh, I thought flowerhorns were good in a 50+ and red terrors need a 75+.

Simple google search and i cant find anything that says less than 100 gallons for a red terror.

Now if your talking jueviniles then a 55 gallon will be fine but one always wants to get the tank size to fit the fish at adult size.

Yea I think OP is more focused on the flowerhorn for now, but this link could prove super helpful, thanks!

If you do with the flowerhorn in the 55 try and get a female as they dont get quite as big as the males. Also there are a few different strains of flowerhorn with some that get only around 8 inches.

I'm still a bit confused as I talked to one of my close friends who got me into this fish stuff, and he's been dealing with all types of flowerhorns for over 10 years, but he said a 55 gallon would do just finefor an adult flowerhorn.

It honestly depends. The link Utah provided is pretty broad, but some versions can be much smaller. It also varies on temperament to temperament. Would you be able to get a bigger tank if the fish needed it?

It depends. If I was able to get a good deal on a new tank, which I normally am able to, then yes.

If you want my honest opinion, you should probably talk to your LFS and get a 75 gallon tank. It is nice and big. We can get the flowerhorn sexed while the tank is getting set up and cycled and if it turns out it's a female you could get a oscar or make a crazy community tank. If its a male, it will be happy with plenty of room to roam.

I actually already have a 75 gallon tank with a bunch of different fish in it. The reason I wanted another one is so I can get a flowerhorn. The only problem with getting a bigger tank than a 55 is the good deals drain out pretty quickly after a 55 gallon and I'm trying to save as much money as possible. I got lucky and got an amazing deal on my 75.

Yea I see what you mean, really sharp price increase after 55. Well, talk to your LFS and keep us updated. @Wills will be able to really tell you what the flowerhorn will need.

For the red terror can I check which fish you are looking at is it Festae or Midas? For both long term I would want bigger than a 55 as they will get 10-12 inches, a minimum measurement I like to use is 6x length and 2x width so a 12 inch fish needs a minimum of a foot print of 6x2 foot. Some exceptions to this if the fish is known to be very lazy like some catfish or ambush predators.

Florwehorns are a bit different as their adult size is more unpredictable with some only ever getting to 8 inches or less which is quite manageable in a 4 foot tank but 55 might be a bit small long term.

With either fish in a 55 to grow out large water changes will be required to flush out growth hormones to avoid stunting and for both fish to grow their nuchal humps.
