Probably another beginner mis-worry, but i introduced a dwarf frog to my tank yesterday. All day he hid in the plants. Today, he is floating at the surface, getting blown around by the filter's wake sometimes he is upside down and doesn't seem to care. He is alive. he kicks out now and then. Is this normal behaviour?Hope he isn't suffering in any way.

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0.5 today, was 0 yesterday

i think they like a little island to get out onto best to get a thin sheet of polystyrine form the garrage and whak it in so he can climb out oh and lower the water a shade prolly around 3 or 4 inches later on it might be worth thinking about a log or something that sticks out of the water a bit oh and perhaps a sun lamp and some moss well thats what i would do hth

Oh, didn't know that they could live out of water, was told that they are aquatic frogs.

perhaps im mixing them up with a different reptile well it wont do any harm to try a bit of polystyrine with a sort of ramp on it.

Dwarf frogs will shrivel up and die if they get out of water. Upside down and floating behaviour is very normal as are almost every other weird position you can think of. :fun: They are very, very weird. :D

you will come to find that dwarf frogs take life very easy and just sort of hang around in all sorts of positions. Id say about the first month I had them, I dunno how many times i stuck my hand in the tank and poked them thinking they were surely dead...but no.

also...they should NOT ever be out of the water. they are truely aquatic and should be treated just like your fish when it comes to taking them out of the water.

well i wasnt sugesting taking them out of water i was sugesting giveing them the option. i used to be a herpatologist (i think thats how you spell it) i didnt know much about frogs but i do now. im intreaged to learn of this entirely aquatic frog sounds like an odd ball.

he probaly just relaxing by floating on his back and leaving the pump do all the work! :thumbs:
