Fishless Cycle Advice

Mine have been running for 2 years and I've never changed them at all. I just rinse them in a bucket of dechlorinated water every couple months.

Oh my god, what a bunch of money making bleep bleep bleeps!!! That is out of order!

Well i will bear that in mind too and do the same, I like the idea about using fresh dechlorinated water, I was going to use old water that I would be throwing out. Your way is much better.

What do you thhink about the foam inserts and the polishing pads? And if you don't mind me asking, how do you do your water change? I don;t have a massive tank, just a 48 US gallon. I just don't like the idea of pouring a bucket of dechlorinated water in straight. I read someone's idea about how she uses a bin that she fills the night before, treats it then stick a cheap heather in the water over night. Then the next day she slowly pumps the new waterin the tank, that sounded really good to me.

I run2 buckets of fresh dechlor water. I dump all the rings in one and just lightly rinse them by lifting them up a little and letting them drop back. I use the other bucket for the sponges and rinse them good. I have 2 filters on that tank so I'm not too concerned about shaking some of the bacteria loose. I don't do both filters at the same time. I try to alternate months or sometimes every 3 months. My tank (75 gallon) is at most fully stocked and probably would be considered lightly stocked with 4 angels, 9 tetras, 4 corys, 3 SAEs and a 6" pleco (not sure what kind as it was given to me).

Great, thanks very much rdd1952,

Learnt a great deal tonight :good: Went for a journey around my lfs earlier and checked that they had all the fish I've decided on which was good as they were all in, so hopefuly all goes well. After adding far too much ammonia in over the past couple of weeks I added the correct amount around 22:00, so I'll check the same time tomorrow morning (fingers crossed). :/

So thanks again.

Martin :good:
