Fishkeeping

I scratched around in some boxes this afternoon and came across this 38 year old 1 ft (30.48cm) canopy, which I bought with the tank (compacted with water lettuce) in 1972, and believe me, there were more than 200 guppies in there.. (adult and small)....

Note the hole on the underside, which was to connect the candescent lighting, which also acted as heater for the tank...

Fabulous read - I hadn't even thought about how people kept fish before test kits etc!

Thank you for a very interesting read :)

And just think that one day, in about 30-40 years, people will be laughing about the quaint things we do now.

I was chatting to my boyfriend th other day after reading an article about a high tech fish tank that has weather and season simulations. The tank can simulate rain, sun, droughts, monsoons, wind, etc. It is set up as some kind of biotope (can't remember what) and the 'seasons' match the natural weather the fish would have in the wild. It's amazing! Maybe one day that will be standard practice and it will be considered cruel to keep fish without giving them proper weather conditions.

I wish I could find the article again. I think someone here has a similar tank, although perhaps not as sophisticated. I definitely remember reading about someone with a rain simulator on here!

I found this thread very interesting, Ludwig!

Our medications consisted of either Methylene Blue or Malachite Green, we had none of today's magic potions.

I'm busy "rearranging" the garage, and came across one of those noisy airpumps we used in the 1970's.... it was top of the range, but as OM said.... you could not be in the same room as the pump for the noise......
