Fish You Fell In Love With

Basically every fish i have ever boughten. Although I tend to "fall in love" with invertebrates more often. Such as my flame scallop, who just died from old age. The only thing i have left of him is his old shells, that i will treasure for a millenium and beyond.


Love, to me, is more than a simple temporary infatuation, more than just an extreme obsession for mating with the person, it is a very powerful emotion which cannot simply be turned "on" or "off" at will. It is a true desire to spend the rest of your life with that person, however long that may be. To stay there, beside the one you love, forever, through thick and thin, through warm and cold, through drought and rain, forever. Forever.

Anyways, i don't think there's a single fish i've fallen in love with. I keep them, and make them happy, and like to seem them happy, but i don't love them.

first off i must say... those who said something about love, you know what the person means just whats your favorite, really.



anyway, for me, its FEMALE bettas. the males are cool too, but i really dont like them as much (plus it gets annoying when the whole world loves them but ignores how beautiful the females are), im definately a female fan. theyre so active and have such great personalities - you can just tell what they'd be like if htey were human. Plus, their curiousity of everything amuses me ("ooo, pretty green net..... ow, HEY! LEMME GO!" they just swim right in after checking it out a bit)

All the fish I've had I've really wanted, except for my Knight Goby. I just thought it would provide a little more activity in my 29g, but that the puffer would be the main attraction. Well, I just added the puffer, but I've had the goby for a couple weeks, and have really enjoyed watching her. I'm kinda glad I couldn't get the puffer until later, so I could admire the goby for a while instead of concentrating on the puffer.

Bettas are my absolute faves, both splendens and wilds... I am absolutely in love with my B. albimarginata
The fish that surprised me in how much I've grown to love her is Marie Antoinette, my midas-bloodparrot hybrid. She was sold to my LFS as a sweetheart bloodparrot (no tail, just like a sweetheart,) but she's obviously not a BP, at least not entirely. That shipment of "bloodparrots" had also been dyed, which my LFS owner wasn't made aware of until they arrived. I thought she was adorable, but kinda resisted buying her both because she was dyed and because of the fear she might eventually have to have a separate tank from my oscar... however, I caved, and the rest is history!
She has the BEST personality ever, and the most expressive face! What a cutie. She is still living peacefully with my oscar.

I was disappointed at first that peppered corys were the only cory alternative (the only other corys they had were pandas, which I did not like to risk). Thought they looked really dull, wanted jullii or bandits or adolfoi.
Now that they've been 8 months in my tank they have turned into beautiful fish, they have grown up and discovered sex and are really, really handsome.

Until about a year ago I didn't care for the look of catfish that much. Especially their barbels. After reading how much people enjoy their corys, I thought I would give them a try. Now my albino corys are my favorite fish.

Very difficult to get any kind of egg production going, females only lay one egg a day (if I'm lucky) and rearing is even worse. Cannibalism. These fish are very aggressive toward their own kind, especially the males. When they flare their fins in a threatening stance toward each other, it's breathtaking.

Umm, agree with female bettas. I bought Tiberia because she was the last female in the tank, you know, the dull, runty one with nipped fins. But she has the best personality, she may not have the looks of the males but she's probably got more spunk. Khulis I love, I have 7 striped khulis (i think...) and 1 black khuli, spread over various tanks. They look fab and are the coolest things
