Fish Wars

It's all in the thread....

Someone will take them all and give him more Discus, which is what he wants to end up with, but we're trying to avoid putting more sensitive Discus in until the tank's cycled properly so looking at other options.

I knew that, I was just wondering if the OP has actually brought them in or when he's planning to :good:

I'm afraid the barter is only valid for fish-for-fish trade. These are small time vendors though, so no credit vouchers etc, just a written note. Which is why I'm double minded about letting him repose my fish while I complete cycling the tank. Anyway, it is definitely a possibility I'm willing to explore so will check with him. As a back up option, should I just rehome the fish later seeing as how the Discus seem to be the most sensitive of the lot?
Looks like he's going to speak to the trader before making a decision.

Update:

Met with vendor, the bloody #28### was planning on paying me 1/5th the original price I paid for the fish. He was just interested in using leverage to extract a profitable deal. Idea's out.

I think the best solution as yet is to divide the tank and complete the cycling process first. As it turns out the width of my tank is smaller than usual, so I can't get a ready-made divider. I'm going to get one made tomorrow, hopefully it'll be ready. Meanwhile I tried to move the discus back into the main tank, but the tiger oscar got extremely aggressive with it. The discus are surviving healthy in the bowl still. I've added a couple of aquatic plants to reduce the ammonia concentration in bowl water. Keeping fingers crossed about it working.

As of today, I'm unsure of how I can re-populate my tank with discus in the future. My efforts toward finding a new home for the other fish continues with each passing day.

Water levels all the same as before as per today's tests. Did the 50% water change too, so that's sorted.

How will I know when the bacteria colony is formed and the cycling process is complete? Any thoughts?

More on my tank tomorrow!

You'll know the cycles complete when you have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and rising nitrates constantly which you reduce with water changes.

I would leave the Discus where they are until the divider is sorted, just keep up the water changes on their tank.

As for the other fish.......

So the divider is up, did my 50% change today. Things seem to be going normal. Obviously, I'm still looking to rehome a majority of my fish. But at least the discuss have their old home back now!

That is good news! You seem very dedicated. I hope it works out for you, because I think that tank for discus will be just beautiful.
