Fish Tank Smashed......

Crickey sorry to hear Clair ! and glad to hear your son is ok - I don't even want to imagine how much worse it could have been

You could replace that pane of glass, though take care because as I understand, new silicone does not adhere very well to old silicone - and you might just end up with a leak waiting to happen and another disaster. Is it worth it ? :dunno:

You will have to do some daily 10% water changes over the next few days to make sure that your tank stats remain ok.

Best of luck !

Well i do have 2 tanks, one which is now broke :( and my 180 vision juwel, so i put all my fish from my 90 litre tank into there, with the other fish... :/

I dont know what im going to do about the broken glass on my tank, maybe i will fix it, or maybe it will be easier just to buy another one? :/ I dont know.....

My fish are all doing ok, i checked water stats earlier, i will do that every day till i get another tank, as i may need to change some water etc....

I also have a 2nd filter running in there now, to keep up with the extra fish....

Thanx for all your concern, and yes my son is still ok, he must have a strong head , hes not even got a lump !! Im glad....

Claire xx

My boy is fine... :D Thank You :* my fish seem fine :D , and my floor seems fine, but i will see what tommorow brings :/ as its a real wood floor, so im thinking it may swell up over night lol  oh well....

Man oh man, how traumatic!! Your kid must have a head like a rock :look:
Thank goodness everything turned out okay as far as your kiddo goes. I hope your floor dries nicely.

This is a pretty bad scenario!

Good luck with whatever choice you make, and I'm glad to hear everythings ok!

Im pleased to say this morning ALL of my fish are alive and doing well..... :D I really thought i may have lost some during the night, due to stress etc.... and all those extra fish being put into my exsisting tank, but so far so good... The tank is still a little cloudy, but i hear this is normal, i am going do some water change soon...

Yes i will be getting a new tank :D

C x :*

The cloudy water is just a bacterial bloom which occurs when there is a sudden large increase in bioload, within a few days the bacteria will settle back down into the filters and substrate but until then test the water daily for nitrite and do corrective water changes as needed.

Kids and fish tanks really dont mix, a couple of years ago i was moving some tanks around and had just emptied and pulled a 20g tank out from its stand when our son came running into the room and went straight through it breaking two sides. He was completely unhurt but the tank was ruined, it was just lucky there was no water or fish in it.

hi claire
just a thought i know you said that you have 2 filters running in your vision, take it the other filter is the 1 out of your hex, if so then when you get another tank i think you should be able to put 1 of the filter in your new tank & it will more or less be ready cycled. good luck with all this & hopefully your floor will be ok mine has had loads of water on it & been fine so far :D . just think of the mess though if you had had carpet down instead  ???? .
must be a thing with boys with hard heads both our lads have got heads like concrete lol
:D :D

Yes the filter is from my hex tank, that i have running along side my juwel filter as back up !!!

I did a 30% water change today, and tested the water earlier, everything is fine, but i will keep checking daily.... ;)

The only thing is, i didnt save my gravel from my smashed tank, as i didnt want to risk any glass pieces being in there :( , so i will be buying new sand/gravel, and putting my filter back into my new tank when i get it :D :D

Hi Claire
If you want to fix your broken tank just use a single edge razor blade to cut through the silicone and remove the broken piece of glass. Then use the razor to remove any remaining silicone followed by some rubbing achohol to remove any residue. Have a local glass cutter cut a piece to size and the new silicone will hold it just fine.

Tcian she already said she wasn't going to bother trying to fix the tank and that she is going to get a new tank. Just be sure you read all the post before you post to make sure something you said hasn't already been said before you say anything. ;)

Ithink Tcian was only trying to be helpful .No need to jump down his throat.

I wasn't jumping down his/her throat thats why I put the ;) on the end. If I was jumping down his/her throat I wouldn't have put a ;) Also how was this person trying to be helpful when at least 7 other people said the same exact thing this person said? ????
