Fish Suitable For My Ph Level?

Haha like a personal tank cleaner?...would be nice! LOL! :p
Could be a good business actually LOL!

Haha yea my cousin is coming over, she's ten shes pretty cute she herd I was hurt and asked her mom if she could come help me with my fishes. Made me giggle.

She did awesome today. May get her to do my water changes from now on haha. Today I'm trying to do larger water changes to see if it effects my ph at all. I tested it this morning before changing the water and it was significantly lower at a 8.0. So what on earth is going on? Also tested as soon as I did the change and it was back up to 8.6 ish. Maybe my drift wood is doing its job and it just needs time to absorb what ever it is that's raising my ph?

I am also now looking into doing a Co2 set up on this tank to help lower it more and go to a planted tank.

Have you done that test to see what is raising your pH?
That's good that your cousin did well! :)

Not yet, I'm trying something else first I'm doing 3 rather large water changes over the next few days, each time lower the amount.

Ex. Day 1- 90%
Day 2- 50%
Day 3- 25%

And from there I will see if all my problem lies with something in the tank, or lack of maintenance. But I will be testing your method if this doesn't show any results.

Yea I was quiet pleased with her. She said she really wants to get into fish keeping but her mom doesn't think she's responsible enough. I say she's ready, she was changing water, helping run ph and ammonia tests, feeding fish... I think I might get her a small 10gal tank for her birthday and the stuff needed for basic maintenance.

She could have a basic betta. Would look quite nice in a small 10 gal. Do you think she would be one to go for bright pink gravel and stuff or a more natural tank?
You sound like a nice cousin lol! Though you might want to talk to her mum about it lol!
Something like this could be quite nice for her:

Though its smaller (only around 5 gallons) I'm sure you could find a bigger size one similar to that.
Would you cycle it for her? With a small tank like that I suppose you could just give her some media from one of your tanks, a good thing about this sort of small tank is how small the filter can be which means less media which then means (for you) you can completely stock it with the mature media instead of only seeding it.

The water changes sound good and I hope you get some good results!
How often do you change the water normally?
:)

Yea if cycle it for her, and no she's much like me and likes things looking organic.

And yea I'd give her some of my media for sure.

As for my water changes 2 times a day 25%

Well that's good that she likes it looking natural! Means its easier to get things lol!

So you do two 25% water changes daily normally? If that's true then how on earth can you say it's because of lack of maintenance lol!

I got two threads mixed up, I thought I was writing in my 10 gal journal.

On the 65 gal I was doing 10% water changes twice a day. Until I started doing bigger ones as posted above

If your doing that many water changes daily then I don't really see why your pH is so high?
Sorry if you've already said this but what is your normal tap pH?
I'm beginning to think more and more that there is something in your tank that is raising the pH.
How long has your pH been so high for? Was is high when you first started up your tank? What could you have added that made it so high?

I discovered its my tap water, after letting my tap water sit over night and testing it was hitting 8.4 which is where my tank is currently.

That is strange. I've never heard of tap water doing that. I'll google if thats normal and I'll report back as soon as I can! :)
