Hi there,

I am soon to be getting a 350L tank (75G) and i am looking for suggestions on fish i can keep in it.

I am more looking on fish i can keep together, i am really wanting to get an Elephant nose fish and a black ghost knife fish (which i do realise the BGK will out grow this small tank, but i do have a bigger tank for when that time comes).

I am wanting to get maybe 5-15 different fish, of medium to large sizes, (when i say large i mean in relivence to the size of the tank) and fish that would live happily with the elephant nose fish and the BGK fish. I was thinking maybe a dicus of some sort and an angelfish if these would mix.

Can anyone give me any suggestions of 'oddball' fish i could keep with these that grow fairly large - but not big enough to out-grow the tank?

Also just so you know, i am fairly experienced with fish keeping so i am capable with 'challenging' fish, and quite like keeping fish that you wouldnt generally see in peoples houses!

Many thanks in advance!

Niki

Hi
Is this a corner tank or a standard shape?

Unfortunately you can't keep both the BGK and elephant nose in the same tank; Both of these species use an electric pulse to find their way around the tank and as they cross paths there senses become somehow mixed and they can become threatened and attack each other, Before i knew this i added two elephant noses to my tank that had a BGK, 24 hours later my BGK had killed both of them, this was the very same normally peaceful BGK that was sharing its tank with small tetras that it could easily have snacked on if it had wanted too,

I would only go for Discus if you are happy to dedicate the tank to them and work 100% around them, tankmates would need to be smaller and none threatening.
You would also need to have a strict maintenaince regime of 2-3 water changes weekly if you went for Juvenile Discus.

I would personally go with 3-4 Angels and the BGK,

You could then look at possibly a smaller Bichir?
a few reedfish perhaps?
a centrepiece Cichlid like a Severum or Festivum?
a group of golden wonder panchax for the upper level?
one of the smaller growing eels?

Awesome, good to know, i have been advised otherwise but from an unreliable source, so im glad i know this from someones actual experience.

It is just a standard rectangular shape tank.
