Fish Suffering At School!

That is the exact thing they are kept in. :(

I'll repsond to more people, I just need to catch up here...

I didn't see this teacher today so I didn't have a chance to talk with her. I have to wait until next Wednesday to see her. :(

I can't stay after school, lunch is my best bet or wait.

Okay, sorry for the double post but WOW there are a lot of posts on this.

I wrote a science paper on fish tanks, cycling them, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, etc. for chemistry. I still have it at the school so maybe I can show it to this lady. I went to Wal-Mart and saw a 10gal tank for $37, not too expensive. I might buy it, the only thing is, I have no job to get the money back. I told my dad and he told me not to buy the tank because at the ways things look, the teacher wouldn't care for it anyway...

I don't want to report my teacher to anyone. I would get kicked out of the school. I just want to help these poor fish as soon as possible.

Still haven't gotten a chance to talk to anyone. =\ Just letting you know. I really would buy the 10gal but that is still not suitable... plus with the time to cycle it and all, these fish will 99.9% sure die.

Sadly, I don't think there has EVER been a water change in the puddle.... and they are most likely overfed to death. :(

Am I the only one who thinks buying the 10 gal is a terrible idea?
It's not very well suited, won't get water changes and will not be maintained anyway if the teacher were to use it, and it's just silly to take them on yourself.

Explain the reasons that the turtle basking thing is not suited and ask her to take them back to the LFS. If she says no then tell her that you WILL report it, whether she is inflicting that on the goldfish out of ignorance or carelessness, it doesn't matter.

Be. More. Aggressive.

I guess I'll get rid of the 10gal idea. I'll bring these fish up to her again on Wednesday. I doubt she'll return the fish because the kids like to look at them. I am probably being to nice. But yeah, the 10gal isn't such a good idea after all.... what about over Summer Vacation.... though their immune systems are probably weakened to the point that they won't live much longer.

That is, if these fish are even ALIVE on Wednesday.... :(

sneek in at night steal em n give em back to the fish shop

If it was a nearby school I would consider that actually. But it is a private school an hour from where I live. I don't have my license so I couldn't pick up the fish myself, I would need my parents and they wouldn't let me do that...

and im sure your teacher would guess it was you

did you say she was a biology teacher.... she would have to know about what animals need!!!!

She is actually a counselor. I shouldn't be calling her a teacher, but she has her own classroom. I have the biology teacher also for chemistry, uhh, I don't think she has fish tanks though.

counceler???.... theres the the irony... she helps people run thier lives but has ruined the fishes....

Didn't think of it that way, but that is true.

What is sad is, I told her these goldfish WILL DIE. They probably will die very soon, if they haven't died already. And she will probably just replace them. :( It is like fishy prison, except the poor fish aren't guilty of a thing. :(

yeh ! i duno if they wil die ... i know someone who kept a goldfish in a bowl for 18 years... it was unhappy but it lived... it could do nothing other than turn around :(

I know, it is really sad to see ANY THING living in an unheated and unfiltered environment. I actually think this is worse than a bowl, yes it is possible. They aren't even completely submerged. I think it is about 2 coffee cups full of water, to support two LIVING BEINGS that can grow 10in+! Spread out, an inch of water. The fish are about 1 1/2in tall. They are pretty much pushing themselves across the bottom of the puddle with their fins. :( If I had a camera I would take a video of this to expose this, but it seriously probably would be taken off Youtube for animal cruelty! It is THAT BAD.

is their whole body covered by water?

No .About 1/2in of their bodies are sticking out of the water.
