Fish Species Index

Maybe a warning or notice on the index, that “facts” are to be debated in the general forum, and not allowed on the index

As @Fishmanic has already stated, mods evaluate all posts to keep it all clean overhere.
I am kind of confused, I was making the point that a lot of posts are from experience, preference, culture, and not necessary black and white, right or wrong. I wasnt talking about obnoxious behavior. Are you talking about censorship of posts or bad behavior of members in posts?
@emeraldking As a moderator, do you delete or modify other member posts? Do you inform the member that you changed or deleted their post?

I agree...this topic kind of went off on a tangent from the main subject of this topic.

To answer your above question:
If for instance a member posted a inappropriate swear word, we might delete the word(s) and would then inform the member why we edited the post.
If we delete an inappropriate post, we also notify the member. Or if the post is totally in violation of our terms, the member may be banned from our forums.

@Fishmanic was just ahead of me...

We delete posts when a member has started two threads with identical posts. In this case we delete one of the posts and explain that we need to keep all the replies together in the same thread, not split over two separate threads. If both threads already have replies by the time we find them, we merge the two threads into one, and again notify the OP why. You sometimes see a post from a mod in a merged thread explaining that the other posts may seem disjointed because two threads have been merged.

We also delete obvious spam posts and ban the person. Members are very good at reporting such spam posts so we find them quicker :)

I would not start a new species profile in the Index until it's established how we check new profiles for accuracy. It would be awful if someone who thought they knew about a species posted something which then had to be removed, especially if other members posted about the inaccuracies.
